This past Sunday Circuit City had a 2 for 1 sale on 25 paks of Memorex DVD+R media. This amounted to 50 disks for $19.99. Office Depot has 15 paks for $8.97. I went to both stores but the Memorex media at both has a "warning" posted on the top of the stack that says (I'm paraphrasing) "If you have a 2.4X burner you need to flash the firmware to the latest version in order for these 8X disks to work properly". It also said that using these 8X disks on a 2.4X burner might result in errors.

As you might have guessed I have a 2.4X burner. I am reluctant to flash the firmware because I've already ruined one burner trying to do that. (Fortunately the store took it back). I've already burned other (non-Memorex) 8X media on this burner with no problems.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Am I going to have problems?

    Thanks,

    Vanster

I have a 2.4x burner and I've flashed 4 times already. I haven't tried the Memorex 8x disks, but have successfully burned other 8x media. I wouldn't worry too much about flashing your burner, unless your home is subjected to frequent power outages. Even if you ruin it, new ones are dirt cheap anyway.

If you don't flash it with new firmware, it's only a matter of time before you can't find media for it.

Yes I bought 100 of the Memorex 8x +r blanks also.

Using a I/O magic +- 8x burner and RecordNow it took over 30 min to burn a dvd iso file. That is not 8x

Second attempt would not even burn. I have not tried again with that or other media.

    EDIT

Tried some more, they burn and say burning at 8x but take around 40min, so I know it is not actually doing 8x

  4. My experience in trying Tiger direct generic(Prodisc),HP/TDK/Eagle/memorex, is that memorex are best avoided.

Eagle I bought packs of 25 and the first few had "chards" of material in the pack, I would not buy Eagle again, but am using them for when I am not filling the disk.

    Good luck.
