  1. Greetings all
I have recently started having this problem where I would put in a Blank dvd and then start the burn process before the computer finishes scanning the blank dvd, I know this will produce the "Unable to start the write process - finalization skipped to preserve media" error. The problem is that the media isn't being preserved, even after I restart the burn process when the drive is ready....that same blank dvd isn't usable. And usually when I put another one in right after, the same occurs with it, so thats 2 coasters from the same error and neither show any signs of being written to. Even with later burn attempts, after I restart, those same disks that were unusable are still no good. I hate wasting product.

    I'm using CopyToDVD v.2.4.17.269 with ProDisc 8x Printable DVD-R
NEC ND-2510A firmware 2.04 (not sure whats the latest firmware)

I have tried upgrading CopyToDVD to version 3.0 but had problems with my system freezing during the burn process, sometimes with less than a minute remaining or during finalization, so I uninstalled 3.0 and re-installed 2.4.17.269. Been working well since, except for this.
I even uninstalled and re-installed the Patin-Coufin Drivers.
And I have been looking and reading everywhere for the latest Firmware for my drive, I found a version 2.16 and downloaded it but its only capable of being upgrade from version 2.15, which I don't have and can't find anywhere.

If anybody can throw me in the right direction to the latest firmware or a solution.....plz do so. peace

Seems to me the simplist solution is to just let the computer finish scanning the blank DVD before you start to burn. Surely you're not so busy that you can't wait 5 seconds.

  3. I have done this....the problem still exists that it occurs again right after the first one errors even when I restart the burn and wait on the disc to be recognized.

Bottom line, I wanna know exactly y these discs are unusable anymore....it seems that they have not been written to and if so how minute or does it matter how minute?
