Everytime I record the screen using camtasia this error comes up.
"Unable to write AVI file frame"
this happens 18mins through the recording, thus wasting the recording time and not being able to record anything.

I've been through the forums and it seems that not one had the same problem. I already disabled teh display accerelation, but the same problem persists.

Could anyone help? It would really be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Dont know the product , and at $300 as listed here on site , I dont think they'll get me to hand over the fund's .

Have you tried using camstudio ... atleast it's free , it's what I use , to do pc guide's with for people here .

Then there's wink for all those other things .

Other than this it's tv out , and record back later for editing .

  4. What resolution are you recording at? Are you using uncompressed?

I had this problem using the program on our college computer may be last year but that was because we were recording in a high resolution and uncompressed AVI format, And the computer couldn't keep up.

    Hi ShinuMirai,

    Welcome to the forums.

This is a guess, but approximately 18 minutes of AVI (if it's DV AVI) would be around 4Gb in size, based on approximately 13.5Gb per hour of DV AVI.

That figure of 4Gb is the limit of a filesize for FAT32 based systems. NTFS allows for much more (I don't if there is a limit and, if there is, what it is).

FAT32 and NTFS, simply put, are methods by which Windows stores files.

And besides, what in HEAVENS do you need to record 18 minutes worth of screen movements?

I can almost guarantee that you are out of disk space.

Cut your work into shorter sessions (like span ot 10 minutes each) and see if the AVI files are choking up the HD.

You can always join them later.

    Thanks for the welcome..=)

Well, HDD space isn't the problem, coz i got 17GB worth of free space, having that my HDD is on a NTFS format.=/

At the resolution thing, at what resolution should I record ideally?

    Camtasia hates meh.>_>

Even if it's not a disk space problem, it may be an AVI spec problem. I *thought* I read somewhere that AVI files cannot go over 2 gigs or 4 gigs or something like that? Or is that only for AVI V1.1 standard?

I'd still try to cut your sessions into segments less than 10 minutes.

I started having this problem out of the blue.

I have an intel quad core pro CPU, terabytes of storage, and plenty of RAM.

In order to get rid of this and "fix" the error, all I had to do was basically change the 'file type' setting.

I think all that happened is that the application got into a funky state and by changing this parameter, it over-writes
whatever and BOOM it started working.

This makes some sense based on the fact that technical support posts(from the company) I read elsewhere are just a bunch of BS. Not that you wouldn't see this error message if you ran out of disk space, but for pete's sake that is the first thing people will look at and being told the obvious is just another idicator that the company is full of crap.

    So there it is.

FIX: just change some of the parameters in the recording... try changing something different than me, and see what happens, I bet it will work the same.

    See ya!
