It's that time of year that every one in the east becomes a Boston Red Sox fan.

    Go Sox!

    Hello,

Congratulations! Keep up the good work.

I was wondering how long it would take for a baseball thread to pop up.

I am sick of the Yankees and fully hope Boston Wins.

I wish the Yankees would go into a 20 year funk in last place for awhile and let other teams win.

I do agree that baseball is one boring ass game to watch, but is fun to play. In football we call baseball "9 man stand around".

In football they pat each other on the ass. In baseball they continuously spew rivers of tobacco juice out of their mouths And shotgun their noses while on national TV Charming.

And Steinbrenner's blood pressure is probably 210/140 I hope the old ****-knocker retires

Good. I love to see it when their attempts to buy championships fail. I was beside myself with joy when the Diamondbacks beat them. And when Florida stomped them again last year. They strapped the Yankees over the tree stump and drove it home 8) 8) 8)

They have the most World Series wins of any team, but it's meaningless because those weren't real teams. They were the closest you can come to "ringers" - high-priced talent they purchased instead of groomed from their own farm system.

Do the Spank-Me's even have a farm system or do they buy all their talent now? Cheating whores :P

Now ...take a small-market team like the Pirates, or the Reds. Teams that don't have a huge TV rights income like the bigger cities ....and a resulting $200 million annual budget to buy up all the free agents in the off-season like the Yankees have been doing for so long.

When a team like that wins ...now that's something special What the Yankees do is basically stroll down to the trophy shop and pick out ...and pay for ...the trophy they want.

Oh,..and they go through the motions of playing 162 games in the meantime to make it all look above-board :P

My ideal world includes the Yankees being disbanded, using the same steadfast ethics argument that kept Pete Rose out of the Hall Of Fame ....they are not playing the game the way it is intended to be played, and are not good role models for our kids. They're shysters who have discovered a way to make a ton of money masquerading as a real team, when in reality, they're nothing more than a corporate entity with a balance sheet.

They do anything to win it all ...at all costs ...and they have lost sight of the game itself ...the teamwork, the spirit of competing fairly, and good sportsmanship. They are trophy whores. I hope they crash and burn :P

    <End of my Anti-Yankees rant >

    Hello,

Yeah money doesn't always buy championships. The Red Wings were high scoring in the early 90's but until they got Shanahan and Murphy they couldn't win. Then in 1997 they got their first Cup in 42 years

The New York Rangers spend the same as the Red Wings and only have one Cup (94) in the last decade whereas the Wings have 3 (ok they bought the 2002 one with Hasek, Robitaille and Hull ).

Basketball - The Lakers were supposed to rout the Pistons this year but our D smoked em!

The Pistons' win made me very happy. I'm not a fan, but any time a high-payroll egocentric team gets their ass handed to them, like the Pistons did, I celebrate

    I agree with you cap.

Like I said earlier, I wish they would be in last place for about twenty years or so and let other teams win.

You got something against "100 years"?

  21. At least the Yankees WIN when they buy their team. Boston, Mets, Cubs...consistantly buy high name/skill players and are at the top of the payroll...but somehow always find a way to fail miserably.

All the teams buy high-salary players. That doesn't make them trophy whores like the Yankees. The larger markets have more money to spend.

But look at how the Yankees stand out by buying free agents. When was the last time they groomed a young kid into a star?

Even a team like the Yankees is bound to have a few ...just statistics. Those guys are good players, and maybe even NY celebrities, but I'd hardly call them genuine stars of the likes of Jeter. Mattingly should have quit long before he finished a season hitting .184 like in '94 Good, yes. Star? Ummm ....nyoo

Rivera is a hot and cold reliever who couldn't carry Gagne's jock strap, who, by the way, is a genuine star. Posada ....pffffttt!! Bernie a star? Again, maybe in NY, but there is a sports world outside of NY, and Bernie is good, but no "star".

    Lyritz? Who??? You mean L E Y R I T Z? Jim Leyritz?????? A star? Are you kidding? I won't even comment on that. LMAO You're serious aren't you?

  30. No, they aren't stars. I guess if you're looking for hall of famers you have Jeter and Mariano (if they allowed closers).

    mattingly was a star:
    • 1985: American League Most Valuable Player
    • 1985: American League Gold Glove at 1B
    • 1986: American League Gold Glove at 1B
    • 1987: American League Gold Glove at 1B
    • 1988: American League Gold Glove at 1B
    • 1989: American League Gold Glove at 1B
    • 1991: American League Gold Glove at 1B
    • 1992: American League Gold Glove at 1B
    • 1993: American League Gold Glove at 1B
    • 1994: American League Gold Glove at 1B

Andy Petite is a star. And Williams maybe not a star..but a good ball player. Not a team in the leauge that wouldn't take him for the first 7 years of his career.

But I suppose the Cubs are full of farmed "stars". Beyond two Pitchers...they rest are all traded for. Same with Boston.
