Recent Cubs (not too far back): Greg Maddux, Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, Mark Grace, Corey Patterson (potential star, but not quite yet), Michael Barrett (another rising star). We'll see if some of these younger guys live up to their potential. Some groomed Cubs, like Hee Seop Choi, never panned out after taking the minors by storm.
Go back farther and you get Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Fergie Jenkins, Ron Santo, Rick Monday, Don Kessinger, Randy Hundley, Milt Pappas, Bruce Sutter, etc.
Maybe we define "star" differently. Maybe I never took Mattingly seriously because he was a Yankee, and I hate Yankees with a passion. All except Thurman Munson and Gehrig. So I'm prejudiced![]()
Edit: Peace and love pwyll. I hope I didn't piss you off. I'm an opinionated old fart when it comes to my baseball. And cars, and politics, and DVD-R versus DVD+R, and MPEG vs. DV, and ......![]()

World series, super bowl or what ever they call it should be on at night though, right? King of the Hill is on at like 4 PM and I record it to watch at night.

I don't even really like the Yankees. I'm a Brewers fan. I just always think it's fun when people complain about the Yankees buying championships when many other teams spend as much as they do and fail at it.
Or a team like the brewers who spends no money, has no prospects, and succeeds at failing. -

Yeah, you're right. I guess i was thinking in the past it was closer...but i think they spent like 50-60 million more than the Sox.
N.Y. Yankees $182,835,513
Boston 125,208,542
Milwaukee 27,518,500
