For the first time tonight I saw 100 pack DVD-R and DVD+R spindles of Maxell 4X media at a Montreal Future Shop store. Both were listed as being made in Taiwan. However, the markings on the hub looked different to me than those on the Made in Taiwan 25 pack spindles. Despite this is this still RICOHJPNR01 (DVD+R) and RITEKG04 (DVD-R) media or is Maxell using a different Taiwanese supplier for their 100 packs? Has anybody bought one of these spindles yet?

The last Maxells I bought were the Taiwan ones. They were still Ritek G04. I thought I'd be getting the Japan Maxells (Taiyo TYG01) but no such luck. THe Ritek are crap compared with the Taiyo. I buy straight 8X Taiyo now (TYG02) and don't even gamble on the Maxells. No reason to since Taiyos are a little over 50 cents each now

If I bought them from the store I'd still hunt for the Japan Maxells, but buying online is a gamble even if they say they're TY ...they figure most people won't know the difference and send whatever they have on the shelves. I doubt any of them check the country of origin before they wrap them up for shipment :P

I know the 50 pack spindles of MAXELL DVD-R some are labeled MADE IN TAIWAN & some are MADE IN JAPAN. The TAIWAN ones are RITEK G04 & the JAPAN ones are TAIYO YUDEN. I'm waiting to see if OFFICE DEPOT will put those 50 PACKs on sale sometime soon. If you want quality media purchase the TAIYO's from a reputable online store like RIMA.COM
