    I might be wrong but I think it's for Liteon drives?

    No, you would need Plextools to do any kind of testing with the Plextor drives.

    As already pointed out you need to use PLEXTOOLS to do PI/PO scans. If you're in the USA & purchase any Plextor DVD burner the PLEXTOOLS CD is not included. You'll need to hack the registry to enable the any version of PLEXTOOLS to install. Check out the PLEXTOR FORUM site at cdfreaks.com. I was gonna give yout the link for it but cdfreaks.com website seems to be down. The registry hack is easy to apply. Just remember to do the registry hack before you install PLEXTOOLS.

    When cdfreaks.com gets back online pls check the Plextor forum. Plextor's sold in the USA don't come with the PLEXTOOLS only the drives sold in EUROPE come with it. The registry hack is not that hard to do. All you do is open up NOTEPAD and copy and paste the following:

    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Juxtaposition]
    @="11111111"
    "Parameter"="11111111"

    Then save the file and name it plex.reg then save the file where ever you want to save it to like my documents. To apply the hack all you need to right click on the plex.reg file and right click on MERGE to edit the registry. Then install any version of PLEXTOOLS. If you try to install PLEXTOOLS before doing the registry hack it will not install. You must do the registry hack first.

    As I've mentioned pls check the Plextor forum when the site is up and running again. There is a thread in there on how to apply the PLEXTOOLS without having the PLEXTOOLS CD. All PLEXTOR DRIVES RETAIL or OEM that are sold in the USA don't include PLEXTOOLS. Only drives sold in EUROPE have them. Don't know why! Only PLEXTOR USA can answer that question!

    Is this a recent development with Plextor? Or are you assuming the purchaser is buying the OEM version instead of the retail box version of the drive? I did just purchase and install a 712A and Plextools was packaged with it (retail version).

    You can pretty much assume the OEM's will ship as a bare drive, while most retail drives include a software package.

    my 2 cents, I hope it helps.

    BTW: The 712A is a nice drive, far better thus far than the Toshiba it shares duty with.

    OOPS! I need to make a correction, it's the 708A drives that do not come with PLEXTOOLS but with the release of the 712A drive they did release PLEXTOOLS with their retail and oem drives. It doesn't matter if you have it or not because with the registry hack you can still use PLEXTOOLS. I wait inpatiently for the 716A drive to be released!
