Five months and my Epson R300 packed up and does PC World give a damn? No.
I had to wait an hour before some prat with a dodgey mullet told me it wasn't their responsibilty to fix it, but Epson's. Totally wrong (In the UK).
Anyway I was so pissed off that I bought the two urls www.PCWorldHell.com and www.PCWorldHell.co.uk and spent the whole weekend creating a site dedicated to the shoddy service we (UK) consumners get from them.
I'd really like people to see, first the site works OK and secondly if you have a gripe or God forbid some praise, feel free to post a message.
Hate, sure was a real motivator in creating this site, you should have seen my original version!
Cheers

I might be able to add a few entries there as well as have a few friends that might be able to post there. Not a bad site. You should see if you can add a link to the BBB.

PC World are owned by Dixons, who are a shower when it comes to returns. Talk to Trading Standards as opposed to trying to exact revenge - they'll shift them.
I have always found that you have to be polite but lay it down to them, and they'll give you some service. -
Cobra, I did in fact phone TS today and they've confirmed what I knew, ie, the trader has to take resposibilty.
The site was created out of sheer fustration, but hopefully, PC World (And the DSG Group in general) may just take notice. I doubt it though -
If PC World sees it they might demand you remove their logo from the upper left corner
I wrote a similar page about Dell. I think I turned away about 100 or so purchasers -
I know the BBB is in the US, He can add it to the .com site and the UK equivalent on the co.uk site. I know they have one, I can never remember what it's called.
-
Cap,
You're right of course, I'm all set to have it removed. Couldn't resist using it though.
Don't you think its a naff logo anyway?
Hey If I get a 100 misses for PC world, job done! -
Excuse me Mr. Ironballs Sir. Please tell me if I manage to piss you off. I really don't want you as an enemy. Your site looks good. I hope it gets their attention. (Did you include a link and mailing address to their company HQ?)

ZAP,
My plan is to go back to PC world, armed with the stuff I got from trading standards. Try to talk to the manager, and kinda casuly point out I created PCWorldHell, just for him and that the url has been sent to DSG head office.
That should get some results. I'd certainly be crapping myself -
I moved to a small town and managed to get ripped off at a transmission shop one time. Luck would have it that I saw the shop owner at a local breakfast spot. After my meal I stood up and introduced myself by full name to the whole place. I then proceeded to tell everyone that I made the mistake of not getting my quote in writing and that I thought that the shop owner was a man of his word but I was wrong about that. The shop owner reached for his wallet and asked what it would take to make it right. In what was my finest hour I said that you can't make it right but I just did! The whole joint clapped and I went on my way. I am still out $200 bucks, but I know where not to take my transmission work.

Nice site, could be a fun few weeks ahead when word gets out!
But as to PC World, you just have to know your rights and how to handle the staff. A few suggestions here:
1) Know your rights under UK consumer law, and make sure THEY know you know.
2) No matter how much bull they give or how stubborn they are being, stand your ground
3) No matter how angry you get, stay calm and polite in all your dealings with the staff. Using bad language or hurling abuse will simply give them an excuse to throw you out of the store.
4) Always allow plenty of time when you enter the store with a problem. Never 'pop in' on your way to some appointment.
5) If you can, go in during the week, as it is a lot quieter and you are more likley to be able to speak to the manager if necessary.
I suppose this applies to any store, but I have used PC World Coventry numerous times and had several expensive items I had to return. I have had to have a 'discussion' regarding the situation with the manager on a couple of occasions but have always got what I was legally entitled to in the end. -
Don't go in during the week.
Go in at their busiest time of the day and demand to speak to their manager. If they are smart they will try and get you to come into the back or something similar away from customers so you don't scare away customers. Don't do it, stay up the front of the store and let people know how bad their service is. -

Make sure you know exactly what you are entitled to before you go into the store, take some paperwork or proof of your rights if need be and don't leave without getting what you wanted or in handcuffs :P

When I had the Dell page up, I used their logo too, but I didn't modify it to read "HELL" with the upturned "E" although I was tempted. I did cause many people to buy another brand (got e-mail feedback), so they probably lost $100,000 or so in business for screwing me over. -
I've just clocked the site and its freaking sweet - "Stamping Down On Service !" is just the tag line these feckless wonders should have.
@cap
can we have a link to your web site ?

Call me silly here but have a question. I understand laws are different being in the UK and all but why exactly is the retailer responsible instead of the people who made the product?

you know it was the funniest thing .....I saw a lady stading out side a very busy street next to a car dealership ...the lady was dressed as a lemon and had a sign saying that this dealership sold me a lemon and will not take it back......she was only there for a few hours in the morning...I have always wondered if they made it right by her
