Falytus, VCDHunter is quite correct, my contract was with PC World and in the UK, and under a law known as the "Shop and Goods act" they are responsible if the product develops a fault, or is not fit for purpose.

There are some exceptions, for example if a power tool had a design fault that led to injury, you could probably sue the manufacturer.

PCWorld are pulling a fast one and its illegal.

There are places in the US that do the same thing. Store do not want to be selling crappy equipment to loyal customers. If you still have a receipt and take a product to the store where you bought it, they will often let you get the same identical item. I even purchased a DVD Player in NV and sent it to my parents in NY. THe DVD player wasn't working correctly and they brought it into the Best Buy out east with the gift receipt. They happily exchanged it for the exact same DVD Player, and it worked. The one locally was $35 bucks cheaper than the one in NY because of local competition. And I used the FedEx labels at work to ship it. Some stores even allow you to purchase a cheap warranty to be able to take your product to them without a receipt for 1-5 years and have it repaired or replaced with a new item of equal value. I had a Sony Handy Cam from Circuit City with that warranty on it. The camera was gotten a hold of by my son and dropped. I took it to Circuit city and they said they couldn't repair it and they don't carry the item anymore. So I got to pick up a new and better camera that was on sale for around the same price of when I originally bought the first one. I have a better zoom, digital in/out, record to CF card or Digital Hi-8, and loads more features. YEE-HAW!
