XVI has ported DVRFlash 2.0 to MacOS X. All you Pioneer 108 users can now update to RPC1 firmware with improved ripping and burning speeds. Get info here:

Patchburn isn't necessary for the Pioneer drive. The RPC1 (region-free) firmware linked above allows you to change your drive's region as many times as you want using RegionX. It also unlocks the drive's full read and write speed, so that it will read at 12x on all media, as well as burn at 12x-16x on most media.

These programs give you what you always wanted out of your drive it makes it so much faster on the rip side you will really feel the difference. And being able to change region as many times as i want means i never need to worry about only using dvds from my home region.

Patchburn isn't necessary for the Pioneer drive.
Really? the newegg.com dvr-108 I got a while back was not recognized as burn supported by iApps, run patch burn II and it is now.

Ill have to look into that firmware update, because as of now, the G05's are burning at 12x with no problems. 16 is not a problem, but for some reason pushing a dvd 2x over is rated burn speed seems like asking for problems

I never burn over the rated speed anyways, as it will shorten the media's lifespan. As for requiring patchburn, is your 108 in an external enclosure?

  7. ok, sorry for being dumb, but I'm not really sure what to do with this. I downloaded the flash kit, and I'm not really sure where to get firmware.

I have the 104, and I'm also wondering what can new firware do for the 104? Will I finally be able to burn 4x discs at 2x?

WiseWeasel: no. its internal. But I totally agree, 8x is the typical speed I burn at with the G05's which are afterall rated at 8x

but i had to use PatchBurn for it to be recognized with iApps etc.

Weird, my 107D was recognized by all the iapps without the need for Patchburn...

I'd also like some input for twosours query...
Seems like Best Buy is doing a bait and switch this week.
They advertised the 2x TDK DVD_R 100pk blanks us
-104/a04 users love, but at the THREE best buys I went
to in my area, all had the Black Labled 4x TDK's,
which will burn only at 1x speed in my -104/a04.

The blue shirt I talked to said that as far as he knew
that was the only TDK media in 100pks they were getting.
But apparently, they still had 25pks of the 2x DVD-R's
    on shelf...

Will this software shut my -104/a04 into being able
to burn effectively at 4x on 4x media?

    Hi WiseWaesel,
I'm sorry, but actually Patchburn is always necessary to recognise the DVR-108 on Mac, even under OSX 10.3.5
The latest version is now "PatchBurn 3" for Panther.

    Excepted using Toast 6.07.

Oh, I installed the 107D, which was recognized by all the iApps, and just assumed the 108 would be the same. I'm surprised you do need Patchburn for that drive...

I did here that in 10.3.6 there will be better support for drives and usb.
Lets hope we won't need patch burn anymore

  17. Appreciate the OsX installer.. but which firmware is the appropriate one?
Is it actually a .exe file? Just curious... being a newbie at this type of stuff.
