Ok.......so on regurlar 3:4 TV I had to use some setting like zoom, full, etc. but now that I have a wide screen tv (sony lcd 42') I still have to do it. Even when i put in widescreen rental i have to use Zoom or some such to fill the screen?????
Some wide screen movies have bars on the end and some don't but out of the case they don't fill the screen without using Zoom etc. button????
Does my TV or DVD player need to be setup differently?
thx

Nope that's the way the dvd was created ,if you have a widescreen tv you will still have black bars on the top and bottom because some dvds are made in 16:9 or 23:1 .

Simple. There are two aspect ratios for Television 1.33 (4:3) for standard TVs, and 1.77 (16:9) for widescreen TVs.
There are more than two aspect ratios for film. Any film shot in an aspect ration different to the two mentioned above will produce black bars unless it is cropped, or unless you choose to zoom it in using you DVD player or TV (which again results in cropping the edges).
There is a long discussion about it here

and a great site explaining why this is A GOOD THING here

Thx guys
I was hoping there was something I was missing that I could set with either the DVD player or TV aside from the zoom button etc. -
