What does the error Illegal floating decimal point calculaton mean in TMPG when encoding a file?
What do I do about it?
Is it really illegal? Will I be arrested? (GRIN!)

This question pops up about twice a week
Just try again, but avoid using any form of media player whilst encoding, they do seem to corrupt sometimes. If you can't resolve it then use the source range feature in Tmpgenc to edit around the bad frame/s to continue.
As for the legality issue - that more or less depends on the content of the porno that your creating -
So it is a corruption in my source file? I can just delete and re-download from another source if that is the case. I have tried TMPG several times and get the same error... I don't want to edit that part of the file out...
Thanks,

I have this problem running TMPenc under XP. I don't have this problem when I am using win98.

I got this message all the time until I removed QTReader.vfp from the TMPenc directory. I work around that seems to work is to lower the priority to -1. Click on Options then Environmental Settings then select the VFAPI tab. Click on Quick Time Movie Reader then right click and select lower priority.
This stopped the message on AVI and MPEG source material but I still get it most of the time on Quicktime source. I think it may be that QTReader.vfp was written for QuickTime 4 (I have QuickTime 5 on my computer using Windblows 9.

sorry about the stupid face. Make that Window 98.
The "illegal floating decimal point calculation" is usually stated as illegal floating point operation. Most processors do not do decimal floating point but instead use IEEE binary floating point. The message is due to an exception that causes the result of a calculation to be meaningless. For example:
Divide by 0.0
Square root of a negative number
any operation on a NAN (not a number)
This message means that you are using bad software (either TMPG or the QTReader) that does not handle the execeptions gracefully.
