Would someone please tell me whether or not it is possible to make an MPEG file from a DVD and include the subtitle in the MPEG file?

    Thanks

  2. Yes, it is possible. However, without the .VOB container, the subtitles would have to be part of the MPEG video, not selectable like a DVD.

Wow! such a quick response! Many thanks. Would you please point me to the link that shows how to do it? I want a permanent subtitle; so it's OK.

you can use dvd2svcd and choose permanent subtitles and convert to mpeg2 or mpeg1.

you can also use dvdx and choose permanent subtitles and convert to mpeg2 or mpeg1.

big_boss: you can use virtualdub and the subtitle filter, or tmpgenc and vobsub/ffdshow. click on EDIT and subtitle guides.

    Hi Baldrick,

I tried to use dvd2svcd and ran into a problem. I don't have the DVD anymore. Before giving it back to my friend, I copied the entire DVD onto my hard drive. Now, when I run dvd2svcd, it keeps looking for the source in the DVD ROM. Is there any ways I can tell the program to look into my hard drive?

    Thanks,

    MB2

I will assume the DVD you borrowed is a home made DVD.
To solve this problem, (I'm sure there's some other way, but...) you could create an image of the DVD folders using ImgTools Classic, mount the image with Daemon Tools.
