i buy alot of moves and i noticed a dvd burner for only 39 dollars. i was wondering if it would make a perfect copy of the dvd so i dont have to worry about them getting scratched anymore. i will just be backing up my movies. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=694959&Sku=K51-1032 is the link to the dvd burner.

Yes with a litle work and the right software. You cannot make an exact backup of a movie that is over 4.7 GB, with out editing the DVD.
There are now Dual Layer burners, in the market, which will allow you to make 100% backups, no editing.
This is not one of them. -
First Thing ... The DVD Writer only supports DVD+R(W) format and not the DVD-R(W) format. I'd suggest buying a writer that supports both but that's me. You might wish to check out the DVD Writers section to the left, specifically; https://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters.php?DVDnameid=228&Search=Search&list=0#comments
Also, in terms of backing up your DVDs ... this is a single layer writer which means that you won't be able to do 1:1 backups of DVD-9 movies. I'd recommend checking out the backup guides (again to the left). One of my favorite tools is DVD Shrink 3.1, which is free. You'll also need a ripping tool. I use DVD Decryptor and SmartRipper, also free. Again, check out the tools section to the left.
I backup most of my DVDs, especially the ones I buy for my 3 1/2 year old son. Sometimes I'm able to backup without having to compress the main movie, sometimes compression is required. Again, you'll need to do some reading of the guides to the left.
Good luck. -

depends on the length and size of the original. but for the most part you wont notice difference. for the longer movies i usually take out the extra's to get better movie quality. the copy's are pretty much perfect anyways.

As burner is only + format you had better be sure your standalone player can play + format disks as there are a few that cant......
Not bothered by small problems...
