  1. Hi,

I´m looking for a DVD recorder able to play NTSC and PAL DVDs and also able to record NTSC and PAL signals. Do you have any recommendation? Are Phillips DVDR75 and Panasonic DMR-E100H able to play/record in NTSC and PAL?

Since that I have a lot of Brazilian DVDs (PAL, region 4), it would be interesting if the recorder was region-free.

    Thanks,

You're not going to find one. The tuners are hardware locked to one format. A few do composite/s-video recording. None of them do PAL-60 or NTSC-50, however. The LiteOn can be region-free, and can record some PAL/NTSC (within limits above). That'll likely be your best bet.

  4. The Pioneer DVR-320-S/720H-S can be NTSC/PAL player/recorder and region free but I don't think that particular model is available in America.

The model in Europe have only PAL/SECAM tuner. Region free version is available.

The model in Hong Kong have both PAL/NTSC tuner.

  5. My Daytek DVR-P30 (OEM LiteOn LVW-5001) does play both PAL/NTSC DVDs and it can be hacked to region free.

Although my TV tuner only supports NTSC but I'm able to record PAL video from Video-in. Actually that's my main reason to buy Daytek. I have a PAL Hi8 camcorder and I couldn't find any TV/VCR to support it in Canada. And I'm tired of capturing/editing/encoding my videos with computer. That's really time-consuming and expensive task.

With Daytek DVR-P30, I can just connect the PAL comcorder to it and watch it on my NTSC TV. Or press 'record' button to record the video. It works like a charm !
