  1. I have a DVD-R that was recorded on a Sony DVD recorder from a Camcorder tape. I tried to load into into TMGPEnc DVD Author to add menus however when I select Add Video a small box pops up that says TMPGEnc DVD Author across the top, below that is a red circle with a white X in it and beside that is s 10 or 12 garbage characters and that is as far as I can get.

I loaded the original DVD-R with ULEAD Workshop 2 and the video loaded fine. I assume the Sony must put markers every few mnutes as there was 21 different scenes. Once loaded I again tried to use TMPGEnc and most of the 21 files loaded fine with the exception of 2. I get the message

THIS IS AN ILLEGAL VIDEO FILE. For DVD standard you can only use MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 video. The files all have an mpg extension.

If you look at the properties of all the individual files in ULEAD Workshop 2 it shows the file format of all of the clips as NTSC DVD and the video type says MPEG-2 video, Upper field first, with the exception of the two files I am having a problem bringing into TMPGEnc. Those two files have a File Format of MPEG-2 and the Video type says MPEG-2 video, Upper field first.

I then decided to output the video to DVD folders assuming I would then be able to bring it into TMPGEnc. Once output I access the VIDEO_TS folder with TMPGEnc to add video. It sees the 21 clips and again have the same problem, although this time I can load one of the two clips that I could not load before. When Ulead outputs the video in also creates a DWS_TS folder and inside that folder is a CvtTitle folder with all of the clips in indiviual folders named title 1, title 2 etc. If you look at each of these folders they all have an .AC3 file, a .mpg file and a mpg.pts file with the exception of the one clip that is still giving me problems. It only contains an AC3 file.

I then decided I would just copy it to a DVD-RAM disk with a standalone Panasonic DVD recorder. Even though this would result in a slight loss of quality I was out of ideas and wanted to get this DVD authored. It recorded just fine however now when I try to load it in TMPGEnc DVD Author I get the message

The program is a mix of different video formats.

The video compression format (MPEG-1 and MPEG-2), resolution and the aspect ratio (4:3 and 16:9) need to be the same within the program.

I don't understand how this can be. If you look at the video it does not appear the aspect ratio changes and as the Panasonic recorded it non stop from start to end don't understand how it can be in a diiferent compression format or aspect ratios.

I am out of ideas and would really appreciate it if someone could offer some assistance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.
