  1. Hi,

I have a DVD palyer with 5.1 ch analog output. I am trying to set up a home theatre( for my small room) . I plan to get Creative inspire T7700 or Altec lansing vs3151 speakers.
    Creative speakers has 1 front, 1 rear,1 side, 1 center/subwoofer, totally 4 inputs. See
    http://www.guru3d.com/admin/imageview.php?image=1919.

And altec lansing has only 3 inputs.
    see http://www.alteclansing.com/product_details.asp?pID=VS3151

I don't know how can i connect this 6 channel o/p from dvd to speaker system. Is it possible to connect my dvd to any of there two speakers so that i can have a 5.1 out from the speaker system???

    Thanks in advance,
    prakash.

Neither of them will do what you want nicely. They are designed for sound cards, so they use different connection jacks and/or different configurations to your DVD player. The Altec Lansing setup would require you pruchasing or making cables that would plug go from 2 RCA input jacks on your DVD player, and terminate at a 3.5mm socket jack. You would need three of these - front (l/r), rear (l/r), and centre/LFE. The creative would be easier, as the leads would go from RCA jacks to a single RCA jack. Neither are ideal solutions, and both have pretty low output levels.

  3. hi,

If i connect the 6 o/p's from dvd to the speakers with 3 i/ps like as u mentioned with 3 stereo to RCA cable will i get the distinct 5.1 o/p from speaker. My doubt is that if i connect like this the front left and rear left will be producing the same sound????
    clarify me.

I had exactly the same thought. I bought a set of fairly cheap 5.1 computer speakers that had 6 phono (RCA) inputs. Front left and right, rear left and right, centre and sub. I connected these to the analogue phono outputs on my DVD player.

All works fine except for one minor detail. As the speakers are intended for use with a computer soundcard that has a volume control in the software, there is no volume control on the speakers themselves. There is no volume control on the DVD player as it is intended to be connected to a separate 5.1 amp (which would have a volume control). I can adjust the relative levels of the sub, centre and rear speakers, but the fronts are on maximum volume all the time!

Even on cheap powered computer speakers, this is LOUD believe me!!
