    Hello,

I'm new to VideoHelp as I learn and research more about DVD Writers and burning DVD media.

    I just purchased a:

    Samsung SH-S222L

My first concern is that there is no Audio Out Connection.
It seems this Audio Out Connection is either analog or digital and should go to the soundcard.

My existing CDRW/DVD has an analog out to the sound card.

I have played a portion of a DVD on both the new SH-S222L and my old CDRW/DVD.

I have also played a portion of a CD on both the new SH-S222L and my old CDRW/DVD.

Soundwise they both sound the same. Can't tell the difference.

The new SH-S222L did have some jerky playback at times.

Not sure if that is due to the lack of the Audio Out Connection.

Plan to test some more ... but in the mean time if I get feedback that suggests I should get a DVD writer that has a Audio Out Connection.

I also noticed that the DVD I played has a file size of 6.69Gb.

Hypothetically if I were to back-up this DVD it would not fit on a DVD-R media of 4.7Gb size/120min.

    Peace,
    GR

They don't use audio out with DVD drives. The digital audio is combined with the video over the SATA or PATA connection to the motherboard/audio card. I have a bunch of those old four pin CD audio cables in my junk box unused. There is a separate digital audio out, but you don't need it for DVD or CD playback.

Forget about the old audio out connection. Think of this as a modern improvement with one less cable to deal with.

Most all commercial DVDs are encrypted and about 6 - 8GB. You can open a decrypted DVD on DVD Shrink and reduce the size to fit on a 4.37GB DVD-5. Or you can get rid of the extras, audio and video, subs, etc., and it may fit on a DVD-5 with that. Or you may be able to fit the whole DVD on a dual layer DVD-9 at 8.95GB without any 'shrinking'.

    And welcome to our forums.
