I'm comparing several MPEG2 encoders, before I decide to buy one. I know TMPGenc is rated one of the best, but it looks like the colors are less saturated. I used VBR 2-pass 6000bps (8000max). I used several different AVI clips, and took snapshots of the same frames. Mainconcept encoder is a little better, but still washed out, compared to CinemaCraft and Canopus encoders. CinemaCraft and Canopus look very similar. Canopus and CinemaCraft also look less "noisy".
Is there something I overlooked in TMPGENC to make output more colorful?
TMPGENc 2.5 - least saturated.
MainConcept
CinemaCraft
Canopus -most saturated.

If you want more colour, why not just enable the colour correction filter? I have never noticed any problems with my TMPGEnc - the output is always faithful.

Go to Settings > Quantize Matrix and try " Output YUV data as basic YCbCr or CCIR601:" checked and unchecked.
One of the two may give you the colours results you wishLa Linea by Osvaldo Cavandoli
