Hi,
I should make a bakup of an original DVD . I tried with dvddecrypter and then when I opened Clone dvd a message of error appeared.
Someone told me that it would be easier to try with dvdwasher and anydvd; another friend of mine told me that the best way is to use dvdshrink ( it makes the ripping, copying atc all-in-one) What's the truth? Does dvd shrink reduce the content of the dvd? any guide (easy one) available for a newbie like me?
Thanks a lot
Fabio

I know that there is a list of guides but I would like to know following your experience the best way to............

please forgive me for this slilly question but waht does it mean DVD-9????

Helo,
Dvd-9 is a dual layer disc like most of the new commercial dvds. They hold up to 8.5 gb. They need to be compressed to be backed up to dvdr (dvd5). Use a program like dvdshrink to backup. If you have nero it will auto load it. Otherwise use another dvd burning program to burn the video_ts folder to the dvdr.

I use DVDShrink and DVD Rebuilder to back up my DVDs. DVD Rebuilder provides better quality than DVD Shrink but takes longer. The latest DVDShrink comes very close now to DVD Rebuilder.

No. It is not possible to reduce the size by this amount and retain the original quality. The trick is to minimise the quality loss as much as possible by
1. Removing audio tracks and subtitles that you don't need
2. Removing or compressing extras as much as possible
3. Reauthoring the disk down to just the main title
There is no method currently available that can reduce an 8.5GB DVD down to 4.7GB without loss of quality. However some methods do it much better than others.Read my blog here.

The only way to remove extras in DVD Shrink is through the re-author option but that will also trash the existing menus.
Win some, lose some -
Does DVDshrink remove all the extras automatically as to make the final project enter the size of the dvd or it is our job to delete the items considered not useful as to reach the 4.7 GB?

So I used DVDshrink. Unfortunately at the end of the backup process Nero diddn’t start and a message appeared:
File” Oceab_Eleven_2001.ISO” is above 2 GB, therefore it cannot be memorized in a file system ISO. Ufile system UDF to write a file of these dimensions: You should select another type of compilation
What does it mean? What shall I do? Is it so important to make an ISO file?
Thanks
I have XP and NTFS -
tha's why I moved to the right folder. Do you have a suggestion to my problem??

Try the same process, but this time write to a harddisk folder. Then load Nero and burn manually.
Another option would be to install DVD Decryptor, and use that to burn from within DVD Shrink -

All this info is available in guides which are found by searching for DVDShrink in the How To, Convert
