    Hi all,

Does anyone else have problems opening the *.wmv files from Wrigley Video?

I get this error message from Windows Media Player (v6.4):

"Cannot play back the video stream: no suitable decompressor could be found. (Error=00040257)".

I've looked into it and found some stuff in Google that says to install something (can't recall what it was now... Something to do with them being encoded with WMP9?) - which I've done. I've also used both AVICodec and GSpot on the *.wmv file but got no further.

The frustrating this is that I can open other *.wmv file (not from Wrigley Video).

It's a work PC running WinNT4, so I'm limited in my privileges.

    Cheers.

Hint: To play WMV9 videos, you need WMP9.

  3. Check the Microsoft Codec Installation Packages page:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/format/codecdownload.aspx

Download the "Codec Installation Package for Windows Media Player 6.4". You will probably need someone with Admin privileges to install the codecs for you. It should be easier to convince them you need the codecs compared to requesting a new application.

Thanks mate - I know I kinda walked into that one... That's why I've tried installing the codecs to get around not being able to upgrade to WMP9.

@ drjtech - Thanks for the link, I've not come across that one yet. I'll give it a go and report back...

EDIT: Just installed the codecs from that link, and all now works a treat. Thanks very much!
