I have been looking to get a dvd writer drive, but everyone I see says it needs windows xp to work. Does anyone know of one I could get that is compatible with windows 98?

Really?? I never knew that. I have a Lite-On 811S in my Win98 box with no problems.
No, I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space. -
Hello,
My microadvantage 4x worked perfectly in win98. I have since upgraded to windows 2000. Just check the requirements on the box or the manufacturers website. Should do ok.

Think you will find its more of the software requirements than the drive itself.

iooi is right -- the "system requirements" are generally talking about the bundled software that comes with the drive, not the drive itself. The drive itself doesn't really care what OS is being used; I've successfully used both a Pioneer A04 and an A07 under Windows 98SE with no problems.
The problem is that under Win98, you can't create a file larger than 4Gb, so capturing and encoding video becomes a little more complicated because everything has to be broken up into <4Gb segments. -
Ok thanks. I was just doing a bit of shopping today at various website for a dvd recorder and everyone I was looking at said basically a winxp requirement. But that makes sense that it is probably the software that accompanies it. I am just looking to get it to duplicate dvd-r's I made on my set top recorder.
