  1. There have been some postings of late suggesting that newer ADVC-100 units have lost the "Macrovision defeat" trick. However, all the posts that I have seen making this claim seem to be of the "I read this somewhere" variety, which makes me wonder whether the Macrovision defeat trick really is gone from the newer units.

Does anyone have authoritative information or first-hand confirmation that the Macrovision defeat trick really is gone on newer ADVC-100 units?

I can easily see a false rumor to this effect getting started. All it would take is for one or more people to have difficulty activating the Macrovision defeat and posting that it is gone, when in actual fact it may simply be that they did not do the activation correctly (after all, there are several different versions of ADVC-100 Macrovision-defeat instructions floating around).

If it really is gone, it would be nice to know some way to differentiate the Macrovision-defeat-capable units from the Macrovision-defeat-incapable units. To this end, perhaps ADVC-100 owners could post serial numbers and/or model numbers (or any other possible identifier) for both defeat-capable and defeat-incapable units, and we could see if any patterns emerge?

Let's get to the bottom of this!

Well I have a advc 110 which is the newest version, how do you do it and I'll give it a try. I know it has something to do with pressing the input select button (I think) but since I have no reason to by-pass MV I reaaly have no use for this knowledge so I never looked.

  3. The instructions I have seen say to turn on the device, hold down the input select button until you see the color bars and continue to hold it down until the color bars disasppear. Then just press the button again (don't hold down) to return it to analog input mode. This supposedly turns off Macrovision detection until the ADVC100 is powered down and restarted.

Some postings have stated that, in order for this procedure to work, you need to have a Macrovision source plugged into ther ADVC100 while you are doing it. Others have said it is not necessary to have any source plugged into the ADVC100 while you do this. Some have also stated that it is a bit finicky to disable, so you may want to try it several times if you don't succeed initially.

Try a google search or a forum search with ADVC100 macrovision diable or remove or similar words.
