I have been unable to backup one of my DVDs using DVDShrink. I have used DVD Decrypter to get the DVD content to my HDD, but now I need to shrink it down to a small enough size to fit onto a DVD-R.

What freeware (besides DVDShrink) do folks recommend to shrink the file size down? I can't backup the DVD until I can find something to do this, and I'm not sure what to try. I got the initial recommendation for DVDShrink from reading posts here, but I don't ever really see anything else discussed, so thought I'd just ask. (Or maybe I'm just not realizing what some of the other good tools being discussed are for.)

And just to be clear, DVDShrink will NOT work, I've tried every possible combination, setting change, cleaning method, and tweak I can think of or that has been recommended to me - for some reason it just will not work on this disk.

DVD-RB (DVD Rebuilder) using REJIG as the transcoder plugin. Works well.

I had a few discs that were puked up by both DVD2ONE and DVD SHRINK. This RB/ReJig combo did the trick.

Is this the first time you've tried DVDShrink? If so you might want to change a setting in the preferences - if you haven't already tried it.

There's a bug with some versions that'll make it not work right if the "Enable burning with Nero" box is checked.

  4. You can always look through the tools section under "dvd to dvd", and find something suited to your needs.

What do you mean it won't work? Is the quality of the shrunk video unacceptable or does it freeze or something?

What I mean by "it does not work" I've covered over here in my original post:

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1024165&highlight=nathanaa#1024165

And, as I specifically mentioned, I've altered preferences and changed settings galore to no avail. For some reason, for this one particular disk, DVDShrink won't work. It won't rip, it won't shrink, it won't burn. Nothing, nada, nuttin, nyet, nope, kaput, fughedabodit. I finally have given up and just want to find something else. All recommendations and opinions on alternative freeware software are appreciated, I'll look into anything - thanks all!

Well, I got DVD-RB, and I don't want to spend $58 for CCE, so I'd like to do the DVD-RB/Rejig method mentioned (as that appears to be all freeware).

However, I can't figure out what to do, I'm still pretty new at this. Can anyone either provide a step-by-step process for how to get this method to work or show me where I could find a quide?
    My gear:

    - JVC HR-S9911U SVHS VCR
    - Datavideo TBC-1000
    - JVC DR-M10 DVD writer
    - Sony Steadyshot DCR-TRV340 NTSC Digital8 Camcorder
