Hi. For those living in Hawaii, Oahu (or anyone for that matter) like me, I need some help. I have cable TV from the Oceanic Time Warner company. But, I also want to see one Hong Kong channel that's not available on their channel line-up. How can I get it? It's this one:

I know that Canada and maybe a part of LA has that channel which is unfair. Do I need to buy a satellite dish? But my building probably won't allow it.

Can you try pointing the dish through a glass window? They don't recommend you do that, and on rainy days you might have troubles. But if the building won't allow a dish mounted, you might consider it if you absolutely must have that channel

  3. Under the Satellite Home Viewer Improvement Act (SHVIA) landlords are generally NOT allowed to restrict your right to install a satellite dish.

    You should look into this:
    http://www.fcc.gov/mb/shva/

The landlord CANNOT restrict your access to satellite television if you can mount the dish within the boundaries of a deck or patio. EchoStar generally carries international programming on both their 61.5° and 148° satellites; the latter you should be able to hit just fine if you have a clear line of sight.

Read up. Don't let the landlord tell you it can't be done. If you can see the satellite, you have the right to access it.

huh...they have TV in Hawaii? and here I thought everyone out there was on vacation, lived off of tourist money and were just generally out hanging out at the beach with their surfboard, looking at all those sweet hawaian chicks.

That's what I would be doing...to hell with television, you have the Hawaian Tropics Bikini contest going on everyday...

It's usually the locals that do that. You get tired of it quick. Do mini satellite dishes work? Must I need to register and buy a TV package or whatever? But I feel that's a waste of money since I only want one channel.

    Must be a good channel

That would be on the pricey side for just the one.

Most dishes are 18" in diameter. Not at all like the old analog satellite dishes that took up half your back yard.

I found a good deal! It's a DIRECTV satellite TV provider that also have special packages for Hawaii residents!

    http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/learn/HawaiiProgramming.dsp

They have the Jadeworld which has all I'm looking for for $37 per month. However, I don't think that includes any of the American channels and I don't want to pay more than that. I also lose my local Japanese channel. This is such a hassle.

Good luck with Direct TV if a bead of sweat happens to drip off of a humming bird's forehead as the bird is flying over your dish you will lose reception.

And they get all pissed off if you deduct the minutes of disrupted service from their bill.

Which incidently is why I still have a $113 bill with Direct TV. They shut my service off on August 11th. That's alright, I had dishnetwork installed on August 8th

It's not quite as bad as I made it sound, matter of fact, I've had Direct TV so far back that it was originally Primestar but if a storm kicks up and there is heavy storm cloud cover the reception will pixelize and then go black, I went with dishnetwork simply because it's cheaper...same package on dish is $60 vs $80 for Direct. But that was HBO and Starz...plus with Dish I got a DVR (with UHF remote ) and another receiver for upstairs.
