  2. Personally if you want to make an AVI to DVD it takes a long time and yes those 4 pages are something you must read if your wanting to covert an AVI to a DVD, you can't be lazy.

Simple #1 - Buy a DVD player that will play divx avi's.
Simple #2 - Use Nero to convert and burn your avi as a DVD.

i have always used dvd2svcd for my conversions. then i found D.I.K.O. but didnt much care for the errors that would stop the process.

then, I came across WinAVI video converter
    http://www.winavi.com/video-converter.htm

it is the fastest conversion program i have ever used for avi to dvd/svcd

    enjoy!

    how does it work exactly?

do you mean by burning divx/xvid.avi into a data CD
    and that player will read?
and how do you add subs?

Yes, I did a quick search in the players section and there are over 200 different models of players that support divx.

As for subs, convert your file to hard (encoded) subs maybe?

basspro: Take a look at TheFilmMachine. It's an easy way to convert AVI (Or XVID, DIVX) to DVD. I don't think you will find a simpler program to use. Freeware.

Since xvid is a variant of divx I believe it will work as well. It could depend on the player though.

I used a program called cucusoft that was pretty easy to use. It did a good job but authoring was still required.

The M2V is the video stream that was demuxed from your AVI. I don't know anything about cucusoft but the audio stream should be in a separate file (.MP2?)

    Hello,

.m2v is a video only file. You need to locate either a .mp2, or .ac3 file to accompany it and follow the rest of the guides.

How do you use NERO to convert AVI? I have NERO but have been using that trial WinAVI program to convert AVI into different files (SVCD or DVD).

    Thanks

  16. I am having a problem converting my AVI files to DVD, here is some info:

    NEC 3500A burner
    Sony slvd300p dvd player
    Ridata DVD-r media

Used WinAvi converter 5.8, it did the job very quickly but when I played my dvd back it seemed to "skip" the audio was on for a split second then off for a split second and then on..etc. I tried this with two different AVI files, same problem.

Tried Nerovision express 2 , it took longer but no skips, instead the audio isn't in sync with the video.

After that I decided to post here for some advice, this is my 1st dvd burner and it arrived yesterday!

What is your prefered software for converting AVI files to DVD?

I have the Cucusoft V4.53 software and it's sloooow. It's converting a file right now. I also have boilsoft AVI to vcd/svcd/dvd converter and TMPGEnc but haven't tried them yet, would rather take a moment out and see why I am having problems!

    Thanks

  17. I use DVD2SVCD with the bundled CCE as the encoding engine. I use a DVD as the input source and create bin/cue files for SVCDs. The quality of the SVCDs is excellent ... very close to the original DVD.
The newer versions can accept AVI as the input source.

Look for it in Tools under conversion. There are several excellent guides for DVD2SVCD in the Guides section.

  18. Ahh but you see I am using AVI files as my source, not a DVD.

So I am looking for the best AVI to DVD converter.

    Thanks

You begin to realize that a lot of things can go wrong with this, eh? If it's a downloaded AVI it might have problems, either the person who created it did a poor job or the file's corrupted, or...

Easiest option is to try an all-in-one like DIKO, The Film Machine, or DVD2SVCD. The first two are total freeware options, as for the third, I'm not aware if it supports a freeware encoder such as QuEnc yet (?) Not to worry, since it can use TMPGEnc, which you have. All three have been satisfactory when I played around with them. Yes, DVD2SVCD can handle AVI to DVD conversions.

This is not something I do very often anymore, but here's one method I've had success with: First check for bad frames with VirtualDub. You can try masking them or remove them manually if necessary. Hardly worth the trouble in that case, but anyway, there are guides for that over there <---. Fix header info with BeSliced (front-end for BeSplit), often this solves audio problems. If the AVI audio is ac3, demux in VirtualDubMOD, if not, use ffmpegGUI (free) to convert the audio to ac3 or mp2.

On to TMPGEnc. Load your AVI, select DVD template, unlock, set for video stream only (m2v). Encode. To author, you can use Rejig or dvdauthorGUI (both free) or payware such as TDA. The most foolproof method to get a good burn is to create an ISO image with IMGTool Classic and burn ISO with DVDDecrypter.

This is more than what you asked for, but the subject comes up often, and it might be of use to someone.

Now excuse me, I gotta take a leak and hit the rack, had a few too many tonight.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!
