  1. a coworker of mine has the: Sony DCRTRV38 MiniDV

    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...mp;vi=tech-data

and according to specs there's firewire on the camcorder.

she don't really have a powerful machine (I think was a P4 1.5 ghz or lower with 512meg ram) and she's not too computer literate.

what is the best and easiest way for her to transfer the vide into a DVD ? she will be doing this on a regular basis probably like 2 a week.

I already got her a DVD burner. what capture card or conversion method should I use?.

I don't know much about firewire hardware so I just order the DVD burner and the WinTV PVR 250 mpeg2 video capture card. so she can just capture off the video output of the camcorder into the capture card to mpe2 stream and burn it to DVD.

No capture card required just a firewire card which can be purchased for about $15 and up.

The only thing she'll need is software. Usually DVD burners come with software for making DVD's. If not a good program to start out with is Video Studio 8 which will go from capture to burn.

Best and easiest seldom go together. A set top DVD recorder with a firewire input would give pretty good results and be far easier to master.

Using a capture card to go straight to mpeg2 is about the worst solution. Instead, get a firewire card which will allow the DV footage to be transferred as-is straight to the PC.

The DV type avi file will then have to be converted to mpeg2 and authored and burned to DVD. Lots of guides on this subject in the "all guides" section.

  4. thanks for your help.

I never though about the Settop DVD recorder before..

how much is a decent one that supports DVD+R and DVD-R format?

transfering to AVI through Firewire and then reencoding it to mpeg2 and then authorizing a DVD sounds like alot of step. I can do it no problem and would pefer it because of better quality but my coworker won't understand the concept of this.

I need a simple solution for a computer illerate that yeilds decent result.

    thanks for your help

Ulead DVD MovieFactory will take DV from a Firewire port and put it straight to DVD or will let you do it in stages if you want more control over what you end up with on the DVD. You've got to pay for it but it isn't that expensive. You can also download a 30 day trial from www.ulead.com to see if it is right for you before you part with any money.

That'll work fine if her only need is to get it on DVD but editing and adding chapters is the fun part :P

  9. If you want ease of use, set top recorder is definitely the way to go...

I may be mistaken but I don't think that you can have both in a recorder. Unless someone knows better than me...
