    Hi!

A while back a user posted an article on dvd recorders. The article clearly mentioned the winners as:

    Without harddrive winner panasonic xxxxx
    Harddrive winner toshiba xxxxx

I have tried searching the web and this forum for the article but no luck. If anyone knows which article i am referring to please provide a link to the site or forum posting. The article might also mention JVC recorders. I wish I could provide more information on the subject.

    Thanks!

That most be a REALLY old article, like years old. Neither Panasonic nor Toshiba has been best in this for a long time, not since they were some of the only recorders around.

So where does one find comparisons between the various current models? I bought the Toshiba because what little information I could find suggested that it would suit my needs, but there was a lot of guesswork -- way too much stuff that didn't make into the manuals or spec sheets of any of the recorders.

    Hi!

Thanks for the reply lordsmurf. The article was about 4-6 months old and was a review done by a vey very reputable site which tested a lot of recorders. O well! does'nt matter.

I won't post another thread about best dvd recorder. I'm sure there are a lot already. Which recorder would you recommend lordsmurf? All I want is best quality when recording from VHS and cable/sattelite and easy to edit on PC. I read in the forums somewhere panasonics are a bit hard to edit on pc because they don't record in video mode on dvd-rw or was it JVCs. There is a sale going on at my two local retailers.

    PANASONIC DMR 55 £174
    JVC XVDDV1 (80GB) £224 (HALF PRICE)

The JVC is not mentioned on this site anywhere. I'm tempted to go for one of these but will wait for more replies from users.

    Thanks

There is no site that ranks them. What few you see are skewed by some really retarded rankings. I have not seen a review to date that simply reviews image quality. Many have taken off points for utter crap, such as the ignorant reviewer not liking the remote or the color of LCD panel. These people are complete idiots and should be designing pink flamingos or something. Leave tech to the tech-minded.

The JVC you mention in PAL, your country gets new JVC models 6 months or more ahead of the USA.

The Panasonic units are overall pretty piss-poor, as they have blocky image quality compared to others, and the VRO files it makes are often corrupt to some degree, especially audio, so yes, it can be a real bitch to try and edit. A staggering 99% of all "repair discs" I get were made on a Panasonic. Some of these disc are just painful to correct, IF they can be salvaged at all. Sync issues are most common, as well as added audio hiss.
