  1. I'm in the UK and I have a VHS tape which is NTSC.
I want to capture this to burn it to DVD.

The VHS player I have is PAL but can play NTSC tapes.

I have an old Win TV card and this can capture the tape but the
output is black and white and I believe this is because the VCR
ouptuts the NTSC as PAL 60 which the Win TV card does not support?

The question is which capture card will enable me to capture either
NTSC and PAL or PAL 60?

Will the WinTV-PVR by Hauppauge do this?

If not which card can as all I want to do is play the tape, capture it and
then authour and burn to DVD?

    Thanks

  2. Waylander076,

I don't know if the WinTV-PVR by Hauppauge supports capturing PAL60...but I do know after 1 week of testing different drivers and capture programs that my pixelview playtv pro tv-card (BT878) supports capturing PAL60.

Don't look anywhere! You have the right card for PAL60!

Your old win TV card is based on the bt8xx chip. So, the only thing you need, is to install the btwincap drivers.

Install them and then use virtualvcr to capture.
Set input as PAL 60, capture framesize 768 x 480 and framerate 29,97. You can capture perfect PAL60 that way.

Then, encode your captured file as NTSC. Your final MPEG gonna be a typical 29.97 NTSC.

    Good luck

I have used the BTWINCAP drivers to capture in PAL60.
It will work, but ONLY if you have a BT878 or higher on your card.

I tried it on my older BT848 card and that did NOT work.

for bt848 the only way to capture PAL60 is through Dscaler.
