Capturing through avisynth

I would like to be able to apply some of avisynths features to my video as I'm capturing it.

I have a WDM compatible capture card is it possible to specify that as the video source in Avisynth?

With the current incarnation of AviSynth, what you ask is not possible. Your best solution would be to capture your source as an uncompressed AVI and then post process with AviSynth.

Version 3 is in the works and is supposed to be a major overhaul, but I have no idea if that feature is being consided.

Doing filtering "on-the-fly" takes alot of cpu power to avoid dropped frames during capture. Although more time consuming, post-capture processing generally allows for better results with lesser cpu power.

The actions I would like to carry out are cropping, resizing and hopefully adding subtitles (although I can see the timing implications of this). All of these are capable of running faster than real time on my hardware with a full-frames uncompressed avi. Is it being unrealistic to imagine my computer would be able to do the same to a live source?

I’m sorry but I fail to perceive the correlation between machines that instantly translates thousands of languages while, most unrealistically, keeping lip-sync. And a PC getting rid of black bars on a video and making the dimensions a bit smaller.

Yes of course, who wouldn't like to be able to do all that stuff on-the-fly when capturing.

More importantly, who can?
