  1. I read somewhere on the internet that ripping DVD's is bad for the DVD drive on the computer. I have a Dell laptop and my DVD drive has already died twice. I have spent about $400 replacing it two times. Is this the result of ripping DVD's???

  3. Ripping a DVD from the DVD drive itself can be very bad for your drive, but that's cause your drive laser will be on for anything from 6-25 hours (or more, depending on you processor). That's why we copy the vobs to a hard disc or use caching in DVDx (which also copies the vobs to your harddisc, though only does it a bit at a time, so if your low on discspace this is the way to go). Ripping directly from the DVD with stuff like the modified flask is definately not recommended.

  4. in my experience, since DVD-ROMs and CD-RWs are generally more expensive than regular CD-ROMs...don't use DVD-ROMs and CD-RWs for playing regular CDs.....use them for their respective media...(less ware and tear...i dunno about you guys, but my dvd-rom prolly loses a year everytime i try to make it read a CD-R)

  5. I agree with Shabubu, I believe I even said it myself a few times, which is why I don't recommand the ripping direct from the DVD itself, a Laserbeam in the drive is based on heat, that is what a laser is, and if your drive has been overheated, the laser can't pick up the media anymore, and that usually causes the death sequence
