Hello,
It's coming ashore. I hope everyone got out ok.

I expect we'll get the fringe of it here. A few years ago another monster came through the Gulf and we got some pretty violent storm weather. Nothing like the Gulf coast, however

We were on vacation this week in Fort Morgan AL, which is an island at the mouth of Mobile Bay and directly in the projected path of Hurricane Ivan. We left Monday night. There was a mandatory evacuation of the island for Tuesday at 8 a.m. Power and water was cut off at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. While this cut our vacation short I really feel for those who live in that area. While Ivan affected our vacation, we could load up and leave. The people who live there have leave their homes, pack up the items most important to them and find a place of safety.
Also, a lot of New Orleans is several feet below sea level. If Ivan were to hit them that would be a major disatour. This is just bad news all around for the Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana Gulf Coast.
We live in North Alabama (near Huntsville) about 360-miles north of the Gulf. Governor Riley has closed ALL schools in our state for Thursday and Friday. Projections for the Birmingham area, which is 70 to 80-miles south of us and ~200-miles North of the Gulf are for 70-mile an hour winds (which is CAT 1 Hurricane Winds). Even in Huntsville, high winds and a lot of rain is projected. -
It must be starting to get wet and windy there, tgpo. That's a bit too close for comfort
-
I have family members coming in from that area to stay up north for the week.
Anyone wanna come over - I live in a circus as it is...so you'd fit in and probably would go unnoticed
The last one screwed up my Internet connection - and I'm no where near there -
Hello,
Looks like the worst isn't over yet. I heard there were several US deaths reported from IVAN. I hope this blows over soon for those people.

We escaped the storm here in Jacksonville, however, there are still piles of debris awaiting pick-up all over town from Frances, which reached tropical storm strength in these parts. Now we're watcing another storm, Jeanne.
I grew up on Florida, and have spent nearly 30 years here, and haven't seen anything like this. I went through Dora in '64 and still remember it vividly. The power was out for 2 weeks, although we did have water. It was a catagory 2 and came in around St. Augustine, 30 miles south of here. It was bad enough.... -
Hello,
Thankfully it's down to a category 1 and slowing down.

Hello,
Ivan is now a tropical storm. Apparently flooding is the big problem now.

tgpo, my real dad, told me to make a maximum of 5,806 posts on vcdhelp.com in one lifetime. So I have. -
It got nasty last night. And from the looks of it, today isn't gonna be filled with sunshine.

Is it just me, but if you are where that storm is chances are you don't have net access or power for your computer to see these well wishes?

Hurricane Karl remained a powerful Category 4 storm Tuesday but stayed on a course in the open ocean that only threatens ships, while Tropical Storm Lisa developed far out in the Atlantic.
Karl, the seventh hurricane this season, had top sustained winds near 140 mph, up from about 130 mph Monday, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. It should stay around that strength until Wednesday, when it should begin to weaken as it approaches cooler waters, forecasters said.
At 5 a.m. ET, Karl was centered about 1,025 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands in the Caribbean and was moving north-northwest near 12 mph.
Karl followed Hurricane Jeanne, which was east-northeast of the Bahamas and moving east-northeast at 6 mph away from the islands toward open seas. Jeanne was blamed for at least 622 deaths in Haiti, where it hit as a tropical storm and caused flooding.
At 5 a.m., Lisa had top sustained winds near 60 mph. Karl's outflow made changes in strength unlikely in the next day, forecasters said. The 12th named storm of the season was centered about 1,005 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands and was moving west near 12 mph.
Residents in the Caribbean should monitor Lisa, which was heading in their direction although it was still about a week away, forecasters said.
A remnant from Ivan had circled back down to Florida, bringing rain and was expected to pass into the Gulf of Mexico later Tuesday, forecasters said.

Every year too.
Can anyone tell me why people keep rebuilding year after year? -
