I run a 3.4 P4 with HT , 1 gig ddr 400
128 Geforce Fx 5700 LE
160 SATA 7200 rpm
XP SP2
Anyway i was wondering the kind of encoding times and the heat of the cpu etc im currently getting just under realtime encoding with no preview i.e. 2hrs 15 mins for a 2 hr film is this ok for the spec ?
Also my cpu gets to about 55 c is that ok ? or is it running too hot ? my idle is 29
Thanks in advance

What encoder? On my 3.2, I get 0.4 times real time (40 min for a 1.40 min movie) AVI to DVD mpg single pass VBR with MainConcept. Just under real time seems slow, but depends on encoder and settings very much.

55c seems a little hot to me. I'm running a P4-2.53Ghz cpu and it runs around 104f or about 40c.

Pentium processors protect themselves from overheating by simply slowing down. On my computer (2.4 mhz) the temperature sensing software is set to warn me if the temp. reaches 54 degrees. (Which I have never reached). You should be sure your heat sink and fan on the processor are functioning properly. It may be that 3.4 processors can generate that much heat.

Mine is at 38C 5 mins after 30 min CCE encoding. But I've got a Zalman CNSP7000 CPU fan + 3 case fans too keep it cool and quiet
