I hope this is the right place for this question

I have Nero 6 power pack installed, But cannot copy a dvd on the fly. I can copy a cd on the fly with no problems, but when i use nero smart start and select dvd -> -> Copy and backup -> -> copy disk, It just sits there and the recorder shows idle.

It picks up my dvd-rom lite-on 167T and my burner Sony dru 700a vy06. Am i missing something ?.

I have uninstalled and re-installed but it still wont copy a dvd on the fly.

    cheers

What kind of DVD are you copying? Commercial?
On the whole, I've found on-the-fly copying of anything rather unreliable, be it a simple CD or a DVD... Better to rip to HDD, then burn, that's my experience.

What would that have to do with 1:1 DVD backups?
BTW, is it a DVD Video disc you're having trouble with or a data DVD?

Que? Not that I use Nero for anything besides writing images, but - I'm pretty confident that the mpeg2 plugin is only needed when you ask Nero to encode something or other to SVCD/DVD. Why on earth should writing data (may it be in the shape of a DVD Video) require a mpeg2 plugin?

Nero power pack has the plugin with it. If i use Nero Recode i can backup on the fly. It is only if i select DVD then the copy and backup ->> copy disk i cannot backup my movies on the fly.

Well, so far, we've just heard that linuts want to make a 1:1 copy on the fly of a DVD. This DVD may or may not contain video. It may or may not be a commercial DVD. It may or may not be a dual layer DVD. It may or may not be encrypted. Each of these questions has to be answered, to provide some kind of solution.

If that really is so, (and I don't doubt your word) it's just plain silly (of Nero).

O.k> to make it clearer, i want to Backup a copy of a movie, It is not a dual layer movie (3.8 Gb) The movie is not encrypted It is on a single 4.7 Gb dvd.

As i said before, i select DVD -> Copy and backup -> Copy disk. Nero express opens up, with Source drive F: Lite-On SOHD 167T Destination drive Sony DVD RW DRU 700A (DVD) and quick copy is selected.

When i click on the burn button Nothing happens, no lights on either drive . When i click on the stop button Nero locks everything up, i cannot eject the DVD's on either drive, so i have to do a soft re-boot.

That is all the info i can tell you,

    Cheers

OK! That's a little more to go on. But as my experiences with Nero are pretty scarce, and not that successful, I'll suggest another way of backing up - use DVDDecrypter in ISO mode - first read your source to ISO, the write your ISO back. Couldn't be simpler.

An ISO is an "image" of a file system, more precisely the ISO9660 file system, the file system used for data DVD and CDs.
Dealing with a disc at iso level lets you forget what files and stuff are in that file system - you just take the whole file system and make an image of it, much like taking a photo copy from a book page instead of typing down what's written on it (but in contrast to photo copiers, disc copies are exac copies) then "stomp" it on a blank.
