    Three down now.

A great band. A great influence in Rock'n'Roll.

That's OK - everyone to their own... :P

But I appreciated Johnny's guitar method - he played bar-chords, ie played all the strings... not like glams today who play "power-chords" (ie the top couple of strings).

Ramones were great, BJ_M. They influenced more than just the Top 40 crap we see today.

Why do you say they sucked? I WANT A DETAILED REPORT, PLEASE!!! :P

yea they certainly influenced a lot of bands -- clash , sex pistols , g&r (to a small degree) and many others ..

The Ramones pioneered a back-to-basics sound that altogether avoided psychedelic music as well as the bloated bombastic guitar that 1970s rock music had sunk to at its worst, and heralded a raw, 1950s-early 1960s rock and roll or bubblegum pop sound played louder and faster. Joey Ramone has stated the Ramones were rather taken with the Bay City Rollers' hit song "Saturday Night," and set out to imitate its catchy, sing-a-long quality.

i just did not think their 50's back in style/new wave punk type of playing was that original - -and nothing lyrically at all was inspired ..

yes -- a lot of good drumming and some guitar work -- even once in a while more than 3 chords were used in a song .. which was pretty rare in those times (and now) .

they will be a footnote certainly in r&r history -- but will fade out ...

commercially - they did not achieve much (well not a huge amount) success - though that is certainly no measure of a group musically (witness much crap today/ yesterday / tomorrow than sells likes nutz because of a good hook or in the case of hip hop , who knows ).

i really think they were more a culture thing in the UK than elsewhere

Ha that's a weird but interesting comeback.

DEFINATELY you are wrong about the "sole" UK influence... I mean, Ramones were influential WORLDWIDE !!!

Yes I agree with you TOTALLY about their fascination with stupid bands like BAY CITY ROLLERS and the BEATLES... I myself don't understand that. I mean, the word "Ramone" is a heavy "Beatle" influence...

I HATE the Beatles!!! The most OVERRATED band in r'n'r history!!!

    I also don't understand Johnny Ramone's obsession with Reagan & Bush! :P

But hey, he was a fantastic guitarist & I'm in mourning for him... I would like to hear Bush give a comment! :P

(Hey, don't get me wrong, I have a few old b/w Ronnie Reagan movies!!! Great stuff!!!)
