  1. I have been using Epson R200 for printing labels on the printable DVDs for quite some time and now wondering if there are clear labels or thin clear film that can be placed over the printed label for protection. I know it is not recommended to place the labels on the DVD because of the DVD physics, but if it is thin enough it might not add much waight to the DVD and the picture will be protected. I found one machine that will do this. It called DiscFinish Laminator and it costs $2,990.

    Any ideas

    Thanks

  3. What is the drying time and how safe it is for the DVD?

  4. I have been using this for atleast 2 months now. Never experienced a problem. Just make sure that you apply it from a distance. Takes about 5-7 mins to dry completely.

  5. What would be the best way to apply it. How do you protecting the recorded side of the DVD?

  6. Hmm, I know some people here been coating with some type of spray gloss to seal the printed disks.

That Krylon, ain't that a clear paint basically? I know you don't put on a heavy thick coat of it, but I would worry about it flaking off, pealing or something like paint does sometimes.

Does it seam to soak into the printed side and become part of it, or sit on top attached to it?

I geuss so far it's working ok for you and maybe others if that's what their using too. Any details how it's working and chances of it coming off would be apreciated. Always looking for ways to improve quality, might pick up a can myself later today if I go to town.

I'm pretty much satisfied with how they come out of the printer just fine and after months no problems, but maybe a glossier look would be nice too though.

So far even some test disks just layng around loose I had printed are still fine. Just stuff I burned then didn't like or thought of better ideas and re-did, not really coasters, just don't care about it. They been handled, moved around, stuff sat on them and other normal type abuse, dirt and dust etc...
Wipe em off and they look fine, though looking at the recording side I wonder if they still play

Yep, the Krylon products and others from similar manufacturers are basically a clear acrylic sealer/paint. I've been applying the Krylon UV Protectant Spray for around a year and have never had a problem with flaking or any such. The kind of conditions needed to flake the "paint" would kill the discs anyways. The spray reeks, adds to the cost per disc, is labour-intensive, and a general pain; but the results are very up-market. "Painted" discs are dust and smudge resistant. Probably only required for people who sell the finished product and want nothing but the best for their clientele.

A quick search on this forum will lead to several solutions for protecting the data-side of the discs from overspray. Use my nick or the keyword Krylon for best search results...

  8. Thanks.
I was thinking more like the edges not being sprayed much and humidity getting to the label as far as possable flaking cause, but I geuss that's not a problem then.

I do alot of disks, some freebies, some sales. I will give this a look into this myself! Band videos I am trying to work a deal for might be a good use for this and worth the effort! They are popular enough bands to sell the DVDs but only smaller amounts since they're only known locally.
And they write their own stuff and hate the RIAA too!
Great band all the way around
