  1. OK. From the help from some people here, I have narrowed it down to these four camcorders.

    Sony DCR-TRV460

    Sony DCR-TRV740

    Panasonic PV-GS120

    Canon Optura 10

I am looking for good quality, good enough to edit on a computer and burn to DVD as a home- movie. My Budjet is around 750 on Ebay. Which one should I buy?!

    Thanks so much.

  2. For camcorders under $1000 I would go with Canon. Always have and always will have superior optics.
Look, let me explain something. I'm not Mr. Lebowski; you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. That, or Duder. His Dudeness. Or El Duderino, if, you know, you're not into the whole brevity thing--

  3. OK. I think I am going to go with the Panasonic PV-GS120. I think I am going to get that because it gets good reviews, has a 3CCD lense thing which is great, and it is affordable for me.

  4. 3 CCD's is a good reason to pick up that camera. But I did see a Canon recently with 3CCD's under $1000. I don't quite remember the model number

    Panasonic PV-GS120

My choice...But only if you've already got a digital still...

I'd wait a few weeks or months..Since it's a leaner version of the 200 model, i'm sure the price is gonna drop very quick, as many Panasonics usually do..

    Good luck!!!

After 3 Canon Hi8 Camcorders died in early days, I will never buy another Canon video products.

  7. Found this old post and wondered what the final end was.

Myself, I purchased the Panasonic PV-GS120 from Best Buy in Oregon around Mothers day while on sale for $650 no sales tax. I took advantage of a 2yr 0% interest promo they were doing and bought the 4 yr service plan which by past experience has paid for more than one camera. I also got an extra battery and UV lens filter to keep it protected.

It has a pretty good lens but it was the 3 chips that sold me. The quality was far better than my older DVs. The only thing I didn't like was the night shot was not the black & white, for some reason they thought we'd like jittery unusable color recording.

But it did great work on a very bouncy ski boat in the San Diego Bay and filming action in soccer, baseball and football was great. I got great quality in slow motion as the baseball and bat both cross the plate for a connection. You can see the ball in several frames on a side view shot which really suprised me and again the detail was awesome.

For that price and the Best Buy packages I'm more than happy. Which did you finally choose?

  10. out of those 4, Canon by far. why not look for a more up to date sony non-HI-8, way better picture then any canon under a $1000 now above $1500 canon wins that one.

  11. I bought the canon optura 20 from circuit city for $349 last month. It replaced my Panasonic DV101. So far, I love it. The 16:9 works well even though its not true 16:9. I purchased a lens doubler and wideangle lens for it for $49.99. I don't really use the still shot feature since I have the Canon Rebel Digital. The cameras use the same battery which was another reason I chose the canon.. I have no regrets. The last reason was the low lux ability without the light. It has a lux rating of .5 lux without the light or special mode.
