I was looking through many recorders and on my top list was the
JVC DR-M10S
and before i decided on that one I decided on
Panasonic DMRE55S or the Pioneer DVR-320
First listen to what i want.
================
-Around $300us or less
-Great DVD Quality (mostly taping off tv (express vu satellite) [quality is my #1 concern]
-MACROVISION is not a problem as i copy all my dvds on computer with dvd decrypter
-Chasing Playback
Here's the problem. I want to be able to control my satellite, i read on most of the dvd recorders that they don't allow you to control your satellite and i dont know why. Is there a different one you guys would reccommend? Is this just a feature that they're not supporting yet but will later like Dual Layer?
Thanks in advance

Good luck finding a recorder that controls the satellite receiver with its own timer ...or vice versa.
Unless they have started putting that feature in, I think you'll be stuck setting both timers for the same program. -

I haven't had luck finding a similar feature that works with DVD recorders.
So now we just set two timers when setting it up. No biggie. -
There are some other topics about Sky & dvd recorders, you might search around for 'sky'

Your not looking at the Express vu PVR because ????
It's $300 CDN with credits, you already have one receiver, so you could be watching live TV while capturing from a different channel, ideal if you ask me.Just shut up and listen dumbass -
^because i want to record to dvd and throw the vcr away.
I still don't understand though, i dont care about "timed" recordings, i've never done that and i dont think i ever will. What i want to do is let a program start and tape it AS i'm watching it. Is that difficult to do with a dvd recorder? -
If you don't care about timed recordings then what you want to do is no problem. (I think when you said "I want to be able to control my satellite" - it was assumed you wanted your DVD recorder to switch channels on your satellite receiver automatically).
Anyway. Your DVD recorder will treat video input from your satellite receiver just like any other video signal input - you can record what you're watching. The only caution I would mention is that if the program you're watching has a copy protection signal added, your DVD recorder may not like that and you may need to use an external device to remove the protection. -
Some of the older IRDs would do you even better, like the old 4500. It had built in timers for changing channels as well as dual video/audio outputs, Dolby Optical Out and an Rf remote control. Too bad they don't sell those anymore but you can sometimes buy them and add them as a second unit to your existing equipment...
