I'm sorry but your questions make no sense to me.

Transcoders work on mpegs to compress them down in size and are usually used when the source is a DVD, but not necessarily. For example they are used to compress a commercial dual-layer DVD to fit on one DVD-r.

Codecs are the Coders-Decers which enable the making and playing back of video files. They can be one of many different types for both the audio and video portions of a movie. Gspot and avicodec can be used to identify the required codecs in a video file, then you just need to do a web search to download and install a codec on your system if you need it.

Movies can be converted from one type to another, for example avi to mpeg so that a VCD or DVD can be produced. Movies are not usually converted so that they can be transcoded. If you need to transcode after converting then you made your mpeg too big.

  3. Ok I am transcoding avi/divx movies to dvd so I can watch them on my stand alone dvd player. I was wondering if there was a way to add more codecs to neroexpress so I could use this program to transcode movies that I currently cannot? Does this make any more sense?

    Thanks,

  4. Try using TMPGEnc. It will make a very good job of it, and there are plenty of guides for you. These can be found on the left-hand side under "Convert". When you have finished encoding your files to MPEG2, you can find guides under "Author" to help you make a DVD out of the file.

Codecs are installed into Windows itself, not just your encoding program. So called "codec packs" are not recommended.
