  1. Ok first off im going to mention i just rma'ed a 9800 pro aiw(burnt chip on it near power supply) and also a plextor 716a went dead. not sure if this is related.

So this is what happens random reboots....no blue screen or anything...just like power went out or something then goes to dos and starts back up again. i havn't been able to finger out whats causeing it. this happens during games and also its happen just messing with plextools settings and steam settings. (just happened to be what i was doin at the time)

also something interesting is that its happened like 3 times now when i click quite on css it does it which i found odd.

ontop of all this i have other probs which i might as well mention all of a sudden i get monster lag all the time playing css nomatter what server.

and once about a day ago(this is very odd) during counterstrike source avast goes nutts and starts saying almost every file i got has a virus i mean it listed like 8 progs that supposedly had a virus!!!

3 of them happened to be in my system32 file and like an idiot i put them in the vault because i thought avast had my back. wrong!! my computer shut down after that and i needed them files to boot to windows...so crap!!

added partion installed windows to it, then installed avast to scan for virus and it found nothing...and it scanned some files that i didn't put in vault and they were clean too!!!

so im lost, im usally pretty good with computers but this prob has me runnin in circles.

here's what i have thought threw so far, ran css in offline no lag, so its not video card. lag spikes during online play...somethin screwy there.

video drivers are uptodate 5.4 drivers
all cables are fine inside case
i got plenty of power 480w
i just installed a hp officejet 6110 i had a hp1000 and it made my proccecor jump up and down from 0 to 50% usage so maybe the officejet is doin something? i unhooked the usb cable to comoputer but havn't unistalled drivers yet.

    winxp sp1
    2100+amd
    512mb cosair
    2x150gb wd sata
    asus a7n8x d
    9800pro aiw
    2 empty slots below videocard
    audigy2 zs
prococor has themtake heatsink and volcano fan on it

  3. I would look at the power supply even if it is 480w. Cheap power supplies cause problems.

Also, bad power causes problems. I have my computers on UPS.

  6. just want to toss as many idea's out here so u can help be best u can. ive been browsing the internet or been idea for 2 hours stright and no problems yet. woundering if most my problems happenin during or after i get done using steam to play css.

is it possible that steam could be causein this? i believe thats when i first noticed it during game play, the other incidences very well could have happened right after closeing css.

    turn on windows error reporting
when it reboots it will tell you what caused it (tho it may be in unbelievably vague geek-speak)

  8. from what i can tell windows error reporting is turned on but my computer just shuts down so whatever happens i guess it doesn''t ahve time to pop up to tell me what happened. i don't see nothing when it reboots....

in bios under load my temp is 40c
    my volts are:
    3v = 3.38
    5v= 4.80
    cann't remember the 12v

If you are still looking for a memory test program, Memtest 86 works well.

Lots of bad hardware recently? Now rebooting. Yeah turn off the auto reboot on error but I'm leaning toward a bad PSU.

  14. ATI VPU recovery turned off or on? First time I used the vpu recovery feature it caused more problems than it cured. Turn that junk off!

wow.. I just had the exact same problem, My system would reboot randomly , locked up in SOF2 and Utk4 and other games, here is what I did

exanged mt ATI AIW pro 9600 for another one, nope
    Replaced my memory , nope
Replaced one HD, fresh install, fresh drivers and even tried softmod drivers and other hacked drivers, nope
got a 350 Power Supply, nope
many many long nights, many many 1's and 0's low level format, nope
    Different versions of windows? NOPE
    older drivers, nope
    newer catalyst drivers, nope

You what did work? Buying a new system, barebones, I used everything from my old system and no problems, best I can tell it was the mobo or chip. Who knows and who cares, this barebones system I got from tigerdirect wasa $266.00 and it is sweet. Everything has been perfect now for 3 months.

Sorry man, I don't think you are going to pinpoint this without spending a lot of money , I already made that mistake for you. Just get a barebones kit, I should mention You can even just buy the mobo and chip cheap.

it got so bad for me because it turned into simple html pages would cause a system restart, flash? nope.. simple pages, not really in any type order either and it did not happen everythime on any particular page. VPU recovery was going crazy.. I turned it off, then when the card stopped communicating , at least that is what device failure was, I was left with a gargled screen such as no drivers were there at all. Junk.

ok ive done a few things since last i wrote. FIrstly a while back i had changed my page file (wanted better performace) i put it on my d: drive instead of c: and increased the amount. Perhaps my d: drive was shutting off? i dunno but changed back

next i got curios when i tryed to burn a dvd with new burner and its only at 1x and then i look at dma and its set at pio, changed to dma if availble but it stays at pio for some reason and in plextools it says both my cd drives are slaves but thats got to be wrong,so i tried deleting ide channels and controller but then they wouldn't reinstall....((((( eventually i got my primarty channel and control to install but not my secondary ((((
so im going to put them on 2 separate cables which should fix that hopefully.

i dunno why i got such bad luck i guess im goin for most problems in a month. anyone wanna start a tourny?

since i messed with all that stuff no reboots...yet.

event viewer didn't have anything usefull in there and
i cleared it to make next time easier to find.
there was a red error thing but i searched and no info on it.

my proceccor is overheating? i thought 40c was pretty good temps for air. when i had stock on it it must have been around 65c

where is the option for turnin off auto reboot at? i hate how in xp you have to been a great detective just to have a chance at findin half the options

vpu is on most likely ill go ahead and clear that

but i still haven't been able to find out why i got monster lag games online are almost unplayable. i jump from like 60 or 80 ping to like 200 every 15 seconds, but my fps stay steady.

so anyway if anyones got a clodbuster id consider strapping my compuer to it and drivin it out on the highway or we can play destruction durby

  23. FINNALY!!!!! took some time but i found out...or solved my problem. I was going to the asus website to download/update/waste of time all of my drivers for motherboard.

TURNS OUT ASUS WASNT UPDATEING THEM. I GO TO NVIDIA AND I FIND DRIVERS THAT ARE FREAKIN 2 YEARS NEWER DAM NEAR.

i didn't even know nvidia made drivers for motherboards till today after much research. lol yeah i know nvidia nforce2 blah blah but i didn't think they made drivers for it. sounds stupid but just never accurded to me.

so all my ide channels and stuff are workin better than before. im sure everything is workin faster too.

but i mean one would have just assumed that there motherboard maker "ASUS" would have had uptodate drivers there...maybe somewhere on there they are hiding but i couldn't find them when i needed them.

ok just went to there site the newest drivers they have are from 10/2003.....so all this time i was just assuming that i was uptodate with some olllllldddddd crap. SHAME ON ASUS!!!!!! WHERE THE HECK IS MY SUPPORT AT?
