  1. hi,

i posted this exact question a few days back, but since then i was unable to view this forum. now i return and that post seems to have vanished. so i'm asking this one again.

which dvd player would i be advised to buy if i want it be compatible with as many dvd formats as possible (including dvd+r dl)? right now ive got the pioneer 575 at the top of my list, but its compatibility with dvd+r dl is not known.

is the pioneer the right way to go?

I suggest you look through the DVD Player lists to the left

  3. yep ive been through them. the problem is those lists dont seem to be very accurate. eg. i looked at a player that stated that it worked with dvd+r dl. then i read a comment stating that it didnt work. so its very confusing for me. this is why i wanted to get an actual user opinion who has actually used dvd+r dl disk on his stand alone and had no problems.

if dual layer disks were not in the equation then i would go for the pioneer 575 for sure.

    Does it now show subtitles?

  5. i presume so, but in my case im not interested in sub titles. obviously in dvd mode it does. but in divx mode, im not sure. (it plays divx and xvid).

  6. There are a lot of factors that could prevent a DVD+R DL from working for one person, but work just fine for another.
