    I am in the middle of opening a karaoke lounge business which uses a PC based karaoke system. It is necessary to install a DVD decoder video card as most of my song files are mpeg1 and mpeg2? As i thought that a hardware based decoder/encoder is not needed anymore as long as the PC is powerful enough.

    All you need is software capable of playing MPEG2, it installs the neccesary codec. PowerDVD is a great app for viewing MPEG2.
