Question # 1
I have a TDK 8x DVD burner and 8x Memorex DVD-Rs.
Whatever program I use, I never get 8x speed.
With nero it only gives me options up to 4x. When I use DVD Decrypter it lets me pick speeds well over 8x but when I do pick 8x the actual burn speed is 1.2x. Anyone else have this problem and fix it ?
Question # 2
In the past when I made a back up of a DVD with DVD Shrink it would automatically rip it then burn it to the DVD-R. For some reason now when it finishes the rip it stops then I have to manually open Nero and burn it.
I cant find any setting that might fix this. Does anyone know what I need to do.
Thanks for any help !

I suspect you need an updated firmware.
The firmware determines the write speed of the different media types, among other things. As new media comes out there are frequently revisions to the firmware -
You may have turned off the burn to disc feature in your preferences. I would check that for the burning problem.

Not the exact problem but I just remembered this - remember to turn off the "Enable Burning with Nero" option in the DVDShrink preferences. That'll cause problems if it's on.

Not sure with TDK but I know that with my PX708A, in order to burn at 8X, I need to use DVD+R. DVD-R will only burn at 4 speed with my burner.
