  1. I encoded an out-of-spec DVD (640x432) and authored using DVDAuthorGui. After that I used ImgTool Classic to create the .iso image. Now, when I played the DVD, it freezes every 10 seconds or so, and then starts back up after a few moments. Sometimes, the audio will continue to play and sometimes it will stop as well. I burned this .iso image on to a Verbatim Life Plus DVD-R disc, which is supposed to work on my Cyberhome 402 Dvd Player.

When I played it back on my DVD writer on the computer with InterVideo WinDVD 4, it played back just fine. It recognized the disk as a DVD Video. Does my DVD player have a problem with the .iso image or does it have a problem with the out-of-specs resolution?

It's probably more of a problem with the out of spec. You can't judge completely on what your PC can play, since the DVD-rom and software are much more lenient when it coms to video.

  3. It's still freezing. I made a standard DVD. 720x480 23.976 fps (3:2 pulldown tag) using TMPGEnc's CQ encode method with 5500 as the min (with padding enabled) and 9250 as the max and a quality of 100. My 2-pass vbr won't work, so I do it this way. What's causing it to freeze? Is it the max bitrate? If so, isn't the DVD max 9800 for video?

Do a scan with DVDInfo or kprobe. I'm not sure of the disc, but some of the Verbatims were (I think) CMCs, which are bad.

I was going to mention the same thing... disc with DVDInfo Pro or CD Nero to check disc... Also check media id with DVD Indentifier and see if Media ID is good (CMC is bad)

  7. - I downloaded that DVDinfo program you mentioned. It does not display any CMC or errors of any sort. On one, the Media Id was TY0G1 or something like that, but definitely no CMC. The others also had similar Media Id's.

    - I am going to try to do a CBR of 7400 kb/s. I've read on this site that some DVD players have a problem with a video bitrate between 8000-9800 with non-commercial DVD's. I know that my DVD player has been able to play all commercial DVD's I've thrown at it. Perhaps, it is just the high bitrate on DVD-r media it can't handle.

    - If this doesn't work, then I'll try authoring with TMPGEnc DVD Author. If that still doesn't work, then that means that my Attera & Verbatim DataLifePlus media both don't work, and I'll just have to change media to one that works for sure with my CyberHome 402. Thanks for the suggestions.

  8. It worked. It was the max video bitrate being that high. I used some cheap media called Aterra and used my non-standard resolution (640x432). My CBR of 7400 worked flawlessly.

    Thanks for the help.

  9. -I still don't understand this problem. I went to lordsmurf's site and found out what class of media I had. Since it's a TYG01 (according to DVDInfo), it's Class A media, but when I tried to use the same settings as above, except I used a CQ 100 with the max at 8000, it still didn't work. I had four Divx [.avi]'s. Three I did with CBR 7400, and the fourth I did with CQ 100 with a max of 8000. What is going on? Does it have a problem with VBR?

-I have the American version of the CyberHome 402. When I tried to update the firmware, it said something like, "Normal playing" and froze. It's supposed to give you instructions and then say the firmware update was successful. Can the firmware not be updated on the American version? Is there a hack then, made specifically for the American version?

  10. I updated the firmware of my Pioneer DVR-105 and used the same media type, and my out-of-spec DVD's work even with a VBR. It flickers a bit at the top of the screen, but it's really not that noticeable.

  11. Also, I encoded the audio to [.ac3] with ffmpeggui. This might be one of the reasons neither the audio nor video is having any problems. I even have the max bitrate at about 8700. Everything's working fine.
