I've finally removed the quicklink shortcut to google. EVery time I search them, I get back nothing but eBay ads and those fake sites and "search" pages.

I'm moving over to MSN Search for a while. That's ridiculous.

Alot of people have. The good thing is that google themself has. Personally I still find it useful as long as I'm specific enough, but it IS a problem.

Problem is this, if a new search becomes the standard people will mess with the ranking there also.

  3. Remember when Altavista was king? They cashed in on their
ranking system as well. Same story now with Google.

What is a good alternative? I use dogpile but there must be better?

I too noticed this problem. But I still keep google as my startpage. Can't find a better search engine.

Google has been tweaking the algo for the last couple of months. I follow it quite closely. My site is in the top ten for the keywords im looking for. In Dec. one page was #7 and at one point it dropped compleley out of the rankings. Now I have two pages in the top 10.

I've heard this same complaint before, I still use google almost exclusivley. The problem is that that there is so many tricks to use that they have to change it or the results will become worse than what your seeing now. For example in the keywords I'm looking for there is two pages above me, one is the actual site another is just a page on another site that links to the actual site, just a image that was a link. At one point they had eliminated the link page which is what they are trying to accomplish, it's back now though. Hopefully they'll get it right soon.

Here's a good sight with a lot of info www.webmasterworld.com Check out the google news section.

I noticed the same thing... if you tried some advanced searches with "" you still got a lot of crap.

  8. Try this one:
    search.msn.com

No ads. Pretty clean. Plus, I noticed my web site came out at the top, where it should be, so the top spot couldn't be bought.

I'd rather try to find sites by randomly typing urls than use msn.
