  1. Recently the percentage of DVD's that will not back-up seems to have increased quite significantly. The process always fails when the DVD is being read/de-coded. I have an Optorite DD201 great for writing but I am beginining to think it may be getting a bit fussy at reading discs. I use 3 different programs for back-ups, Shrink, DVD Decrypter, and DVD XCopy, they all fail at the same point when backing up certain discs showing read errors. I understand not all discs will back-up but this is starting to happen far to often. I am thinking of buying a DVD rom just for reading the discs as these are very cheap and seeing if this helps, then just using the Optorite to burn the discs (which it does very well!). Anybody else encountered anything like this, I guess I should try one of the discs I am having trouble with on somebody elses PC/DVD rom/writer. Thanks for any advice

  3. On DVD Decrypter it usually check disc condition, however last time it did this it was a disc that looked unmarked to me. I have had them that looked in bad condition before and wouldn't back-up, yet I could watch them on my stand alone DVD player on my television no problem, guess this different from copying them. I cannot remember the problem with DVD shrink it usually just hangs, and I have to press ctrl alt delete to get out of it.

  4. Tried a different PC with a different drive with one of the problem discs, it worked no problems whatsoever. Think I will get a DVD rom drive to use for reading the disc, and use my writer just to write it!
