  1. I just got a BENQ DW800A DVD+RW 2 weeks ago. I installed it in my computer and I burned the DVD+R that came with the burner. It burned it perfeclty. Then I burned some stuff on the DVD+RW that came with the burner, too. It works perfectly fine! (Note: The DVD+R and DVD+RW that came with it are BENQ)

So then I asked my cousin to give me a few DVD-Rs, not knowing my burner is only a +R. It barely read it and everytime I burned with it, there was an error at 0% of the burning process.

I went and bought Maxell DVD-Rs, again not knowing my burner is only +R. The burner read it perfectly fine, but when I burned it, same problem: at 0%, it screws up.

Then I finally realized that it's a DVD+R/W only. So I returned the Maxell DVD-Rs and bought Maxell DVD+Rs. I came back home to try them. THE SAME PROBLEM! It reads it fine, but it fails at 0%!!

I got to burn the DVD+Rs that came with it, why not these? Do I have to get another brand? What if they don't work either? I really need help here!

NOTE: I use Nero 6 Ultra Edition to burn. And I use DVD-lab to compile the DVD.

    Hello,

You may want to check the maufacturers website for a firmware upgrade. It may help fix your compatibility problem.

  3. I tried that, but when I did it, it said that it can't update.
    I realized something else:
I tried burning a DVD-ROM (ISO) and it worked perfectly fine. But I tried it in my DVD Player and it says error-check disc. I got happy since it got to burn it and tried burning a DVD-Video, and then it failed again at 0%. So what am I supposed to do? It IS compatible with the Maxell DVD+Rs, but it fails whenever I'm burning a DVD+R Video.

Note: When I made the DVD-ROM, I included the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders and it still didn't work in my DVD Player.

Note: When I burned a DVD-Video on the DVD+RW that came with my burner, it worked perfectly fine.

Please help me on this one, I'm a newbie at this kinda stuff.

  4. You broke your burner. You messed up the lense when you put in DVD-R and the firmware would not read it. Try another writting program nero copytodvd.

I didn't break it, i could still burn perfectly fine on the DVD+RW that came with my burner. But I'll try the program you told me to use.

  6. I have a Benq DW800a and there was a firmware upgrade ($10.00 via Benq) that makes this burner a dual media burner. I upgraded and can burn both + and - media.

  7. Well, I'm not sure, but my burner is a BenQ DW800A ATAPI DVD DUAL 8X4X12 B3D7 does this mean my burner IS a Dual +/- burner?

Anyways, either way I bought DVD+Rs so there shouldn't be any problems, right? So why can't I burn DVD-Videos and burn DVD-Datas?

No, it means your burner will burn dual layer disks (but still only +R)

Are you using the Nero DVD-Video template? If you are, are you loading your VOB/IFO/BUP files in the Video_TS folder or just trying to add them outside? I believe nero will fail on DVD-Video if you do not have any files inside the VIDEO_TS folder... maybe not. Also, you may want to check that the DVD Video files you are putting into your dvd-video are DVD compliant (don't try to force regular mpgs into the dvd-video structure) I don't think nero will allow the disc to burn unless the files are actual DVD-Video files (using the DVD-Video template in nero) Just a question I thought I would I ask. I know it seems simple, but then again, trying to put DVD-R in a DVD+R Drive...

  10. I tried burning with copytodvd, DVD-lab, Sonic RecordNow!, Windows Default Recorder, etc... They all fail. I guess it's the DVD+Rs that don't work with DVD-Video. I'll just buy other kind of DVD+Rs until I find the right one for me.

NOTE: I used DVD-lab to compile the DVD files, so I'm not using any kind of MPEGs-- actually, I'm not even using Mpegs, I'm using VOBs!

If anyone still has a suggestion, then you can still post a reply, I'll be checking every day, but for now, I think my only solution is to try another brand.

  11. My burner is also listed as an 8x4x12 dual burner also, but it will burn both + and - media. The only way it will ever be a dual-layer burner is if you upgrade, via patched software, the 800a to an 822a and then wait for the official Benq 822a dual-layer firmware coming out this month.
800a and 822a cannot, out-of-the-box, write to dual/double layer media. You would need to buy the 830a or one of the newer 16xx drives for that capability.
