freezes on your computer or standalone dvd player? or both?
maybe crappy media, test different media.

  3. I have the same problem with the video freezing. Only I did not burn it yet because I don't need another coster. Do you think it would react differently if I did?

Bad media, or bad source material. If it's an AVI from some P2P network, the cance of bad frames are about 90%, and those have to be fixed before doing anything else with the AVI.
For lower quality media, I try to keep the final DVD size at or lower than 4 GB, to avoid the troublesome outer edge of the disc.

  5. make sure you pick the right output file,PAL or NTSC,that will make some movies jump and skip a bit.

  6. the avi file plays perfectly on my computer both audio and video

I made a previous dvd with dvdsanta with 4 avi files and it came out good

but this time I'm filling the dvd to 98% with 9 avi files each of these files are around 198 to 200 megs and 19 to 20 minutes long.

thats why I thought it was weird for this to happen.

    any suggestions ?

    Thanks

...tells you very little about the integrity of the AVI. A player can live with a bad frame or two here and there, but an encoder instantly chokes if it stumbles on a bad frame.
