Nope, it doesn't exist yet. Your only solution at this time is to use a different drive, such as one in a FireWire enclosure, or in a different computer. If you change your DVD drive's region setting, it will work, but you only get 5 region changes, before it's permanently stuck in the last region you choose.

Not on your drive. VLC (and MplayerX, I believe) both use the same decryption method as MacTheRipper, so they won't work with out-of-region discs on that drive either. Your best bet might be to get an external FW enclosure and stick either a DVD-ROM or DVD-RW drive in there, and use that for playing and ripping.

Toast image might seem like it worked, but the results will be unplayable if your source is from encrypted DVDs (basically all commercial DVDs). OSEx is always worth a try, but I'd stick with DVD Image mode (even though it's about 3x longer), as the DVD Folder mode has really lousy error handling, and sometimes makes glitchy output.

    HAHAHA....I AM A GENIOUS!(or at least i think i am??)

I ripped it with toast(took about 30/40 min to do. Then opened the ,toast image with diskmount, then opened dvd player. Dvd player will let me switch the region again, or i tried using it with MTR, and it worked. And mtr took around 3 min to do a full disc extract. Nopw i have a region free videots folder DVD Player can read. When I egt back to the states ill invest in a DVR-108 if they have the firmware update by then.

That's interesting. What 'discmount' are you referring to? Do you mean Toast's 'mount' function in disk image mode? Or are you referring to Disk Utility's mounting mechanism? Apparently, DVD Player switched the region on the virtual drive that Toast made the MacOS think the DVD image is mounted in. After switching regions, I guess MTR was able to rip the DVD, since the virtual drive's region was now matching the DVD's (or Toast's virtual drive just has better out-of-region compatibility than the Matshita UJ-825). I would have thought that MTR would fail, since the DVD's CSS key is located on the original DVD, and doesn't get copied by Toast's Copy mode, but I guess I'm wrong. That is definitely a breakthrough. I'd be interested in knowing if the next time you do that, DVD Player thinks you only have 4 changes left, or if you still get all 5 changes again. Either way, I'll have to remember that one, for all the people who ask us about that drive's incompatibility with out of region DVDs.

I just ripped another dvd this way.(Tenchi Muyo DIsc 1 Region 1,4) And this ones givin me problems. It ripped fine, dvd player will open it.... it will say change region, then it will just be a black screen. I havent tried MTR yet, but i will. I am still trying to find a good external drive(im thinking an insanely fast dvd-rom/cdrw. Any suggestions? Cheap too. For I have sorta invested most of my cash in my powerbook.

How many region changes did it say you had left?

5, but will only let me rip the dvd with mtr. and now dvd player wont recognize the dvd folder. Its very strange. Ill go for a new drive tho.
Any suggestions on a slim, portable, FLASHABLE, dvd-rom/cd-rw drive that is fairly cheap? Anyone?
