Hi, guys.
I've been asked to create a proposal talking about the business uses for "multimedia services", which in this case, means DVD video. Recording training classes is a given, and possibly recording what the user does in an application, but that's not much. I need a lot more uses than that to do a solid proposal. Does anyone else use DVD video for work?
If not, does anyone have any ideas for what it could be used for? I am sure there is a whole spectrum of possibilities, and I would love to help my organization move into this great technology.
If anyone cares to share any thoughts, they are certainly welcome. I will even send you a copy of the finished proposal, if you'd like.
Thanks,
Brian

Wait a liiiitle longer than 50 minutes to bump your own topic ...like 2 days. Don't be pushy

well, consolidation and convienience is one factor - I'm working on a project right now, transferring multiple 10 & 20 minute training videos from VHS tapes to DVD.
that way, instead of taking a bag full of VHS tapes and arranging for a TV & VCR, the trainers can take their laptop and 1 dvd and run the full complement of training videos for their clients.
depends on the business as well - what field are we talking about? what about mixed-mode discs with an infomercial on a product or company, combined with dvd-rom content with full catalogs, weblinks, reference material, etc?- housepig

out now:

I can possibly help answer some of your questions bek....alot of the business VHS tapes I have seen at many different companies can also apply for DVD. Some possible business uses can be: training new employees, showing a slideshow or short video of company policies, regulations and interviewing people that deal with that field, even a session where a person can be tested on the knowledge of the content presented, scenario videos where a simulation of say a company procedure that hasnt been followed and the resulting consequence, a way for a company to display or introduce their goods or services to prospective clients, product demostrations, things like that.
In my current job in the trucking industry, I see all kinds of videos (specific to the trucking industry) relating to the DOT regulations, HAZMAT regulations, physical and drug testing info....so many different things.
I hope that some of these ideas may help you.
VTMI have the staff of power, now it's up to me to use it to its full potential to command my life and be successful.

Here, I'll help.
Why don't you pay us a consulting fee so that we can expedite your "order"?
Why is it our problem that you are on a time constraint? This is a hobby site, not a "save my job" site.
Just as you (hopefully) can't walk around naked at work, there's a few rules that you need to abide by that you agreed to when you joined these boards.
Basically, you are the one that is rude

Supreme2k,
No, I'm not actually the one being rude, you two guys are. If you'll read the rule that I'm *supposedly* violating, it says (quoted):
"Please try not to "bump" your topic. "
From that language, it's not hard and fast, and I do try not to bump. I've posted 142 times and this is the only bump I've ever done. It's because I have a deadline, and no that's not your problem, but neither is it my problem that you guys are getting all tore up. My job's not in any danger and I don't plan on paying you a consulting fee, thanks.
ANYWAY.... to smearbrick1, freestyler, VideoTechMan, and housepig: thank you SO much for your responses. To answer your question, freestyler, I work for the government. We are investigating offering DVD authoring as a service to other government agencies. At first thought, these business uses come to mind:
seminar and training course recordings
new employee orientation videos
DVD business cards
product promotion videos
VHS to DVD conversion
I've got a few more ideas listed at work, but I admit the ideas are running thin.
Thanks for your help.

Don't forget to acknowledge the flexibility of DVD.
You can make international content utilizing up to 9 angles, 8 audio streams, 32 subtitles.
I've seen some dvds detailing surgical procedures (breast augmentation) from various angles in many different selectable languages, giveaway promo dvds from bands and artists, as well as dvd yearbooks for schools.
You may want to check this website out:

A dvd in a beverage cup. Pretty cool!

Replying to your own topic to get it to the top is annoying. Try to have some patience, this is a bulletin board, not IRC. It may take some time (e.g., one or two days) before someone can answer your query or question.
And with that, I'm done.
*ungrateful for the privilege of posting here.
